What recording of Evita would you say is the one to get? Is there much of a muchness, or should I be picky? I've never seen the stage version, but love the movie. Can Madonna be bettered?

I like the movie version better, even though the OBC recording is good too (except Mandy.........YIKES!!!)

OBC for sure.

OBC.

Patti Lupone is in a whole other class than Madonna and owns that role.

OBC

"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

OBC recording

I am just so not a fan of Madonna

I'm going with just about everyone else. Nothing beats the OBC. Patti LuPone's "Rainbow High" is worth the price of the CD alone.

While I listen to my "Version Original en Espanol" the most ( it's just too cool in Spanish), the LuPone, Patinkin, Gunton disks are my favorite - I wore out the vinyl double album back in college. "A New Argentina" got me up for many a night on the town. The original studio cast recording is also worthwhile, though the material/orchestrations differ substantially from the the production we all now know - it is much softer. This music can rock - I've never found a better Another Suitcase in Another Hall than Barbara Dickson's, and Julie Covington just never worked enough. CT Wilkinson is better known to us now as Colm Wilkinson.

OBC!

Patti LuPone give THE BEST MUSICAL theatre performance ever recorded on this CD. And I have to completely disagree with the Mandy P basher. He is fantastic on this album.

Mine is not a popular opinion, but I prefer the movie soundtrack. I find LuPone's performance like a blitskrieg to the ears. But I will admit that her "Buenos Aires" can't be beat.

oh if anyone can get their hands on the Original Madrid Cast starring the AMAZING PALOMA SAN BASILIO do yourself a favor and snatch this puppy up.

it has to be one of the best EVITA recordings ever done. it's entirely in SPANISH which leads to some authenticity because after all, Argentinians do speak Spanish. Updated On: 12/19/04 at 07:42 PM

No question. The OBC. Madonna is good. But she's got nothing on the great Patti LuPone. And I disagree on Mandy Patinkin. He sounds amazing, per usual.

You are all wrong!!!

jk, but I will give rational thoughts why I like the movie soundtrack the best. Whether you like Madonna or not, the movie soundtrack has the best overall sound, orchestrations and complete score. Being that it was recorded in the 90s as oppossed to the 70s the sound is much bigger, fuller, and just blows the dinky orchestra of the OBC away. I also like the way Madonna and Antonio Bandaras actually sang the score rock sounding as oppossed to Patti LuPone and Mandy Pattington or whatever singing musical theatre style though their noses and not knowing what the hell Patti LuPone is saying. OBC sounds so vintage and quite while the movie is actually FULLY orchestrated and much louder. I think the movie of EVITA is the definitive version of the score. If you hate Madonna's acting thats fine but the woman does have a great pop voice even if she's a slut.

The movie soundtrack is not even worth discussing - they took ALL of Madonna's keys down a 4th - it is not what the music is supposed to be and she doesn't have close to singing and especially acting chops of Patti LuPone. The movie was a joke - really bad. Which is why it flopped.

Now bbroadwaybb, I HAVE to jump on you here. The movie was not a flop. It was nominated for 5 Oscars, won 1, 5 Golden Globes, won 3 including best picture and the movie was relatively successful at the box office and has made everything back. Do not say it was a flop.

bronxboundexpress, are you having major issues with women. do you get along with them in any way, shape or form?

do they like you?

only reason i am asking is because you have this unusual, let's just say...you have a "knack" for insulting women.

on this thread you just called madonna a slut.

on another thread you called sutton foster "unattractive"...

and if i recall, a couple of months ago you referred to another performer as a "bitch" because you didn't like her performance.

what's the deal?

Ah! Very observant. It's actually just a coincidence that all these people(Madonna, Sutton Foster, and Terra McCleshod) who I have made fun of are women. Please do not take it seriously. Is Madonna a slut? Some would say so I guess. I was just nodding to that controversy. Anyway, I will try to be more fair and name call men. I am normal when it comes to female relations! Thanks for caring!

Yes, you are correct. It was not a hit. Thank you for rephrasing and not saying it was a flop because it was not.
