"Anyway, I will try to be more fair and name call men. I am normal when it comes to female relations! Thanks for caring! "
LOL. Wow.
Would you guys mind telling me where you get this information so fast? I want to know where to find this for other movies.
"EVITA'S BUDGET: $55,000,000
TOTAL GROSS BY APRIL 1997: $49,994,804"
So the movie has had 7 years to make 5,000 more dollars to break even. I'd say it did it.

Evita was a flop.
It was budgeted at $55 million (not including the tens of millions spent on marketing). Because of the percentage of the box office that goes to theatre owners, movies generally have to gross roughly double in rentals what they cost to make in order to break even. "Evita" grossed about $50 million at the box office, taking in just over $23 million in rentals domestically. Even adding in foreign rentals and income from CD, VHS and DVD sales, as well as broadcast and other subsidiary rights, the film has never come close to breaking even, hence it was a flop.

"LOL. Wow."
Boy, that Gary Beach is such a dickhead!
lol
umm....mary, i hate to brek this to you but if the movie didn't re-coup it's total budget costs and then some within the year it was released then it's A BIG FRIGGIN FLOP.
REPEAT AFTER ME:
EVITA. WAS. A. BIG. FRIGGIN. FLOP. AT. THE. BOX. OFFICE.
What percentage of movies that are flops win Academy Awards like EVITA?
What does that matter? It was still "A. BIG. FRIGGIN. FLOP. AT. THE. BOX. OFFICE."
oh gee winning an an Oscar does not make a movie a box office BLOCKBUSTER it is just an award handed out by the motion picture academy. Updated On: 12/19/04 at 08:13 PM
So, it was a flop. What's the big deal Bronxbound? Why are you continually saying something that you can't sustantiate? It was flop! Big deal!
You can find anything on the internet. Here is the website I used:

Does anyone have an answer to that question? Why do you assume I'm beating the dead horse? Yes, it was a flop. Does anyone know of sort of critically successful movies that make no money?
And where it's a big deal from a musical to recoup - it is a big deal for a movie to not recoup - or only recoup - thus a box office flop.
well bronxbound there are tons of critically acclaimed movies that turned out duds at the box office. EVITA was not one of them.
I htink of the Oscars as "critic successes" and I started to type that but then I realized that I don't even think the reviews were more than mixed. How do you describe EVITA's success I wonder. It did get 5 Oscar noms so . . . hmm
I agree that just because movies are nominated, that they are still flops (Especially the artsy films). And yes, it did flop but that doesn't mean that you should love it any less, that is if you loved it to begin with. I like it and that is all that matters to me. If you do not like it, that is all that matters to you and I respect your opinion. Now, can we put the arguing to rest?
it got 5 oscar nominations because those academy members that voted for the film in their respective fields (costume design, photography, song, etc.) felt that their peers did a well enough job and it deserved recognition or a "nod" in that respect.
that is all. it still doesn't make a film a "success". all it did was get nominated for oscars. BIG WHOOP.
Yeah I guess I really get tired of people who use the fact that it was a flop as a way of defending their reasons for it being bad. Personal taste is relative and the box offie results should have no part in any debate over the quality of the movie itself.
i can only speak for myself. but i am not arguing. i am having a message board "convo" and expressing my point of view.
Oscar nominations for Evita:
Art Direction
Cinematography
Film Editing
Music (original song) - You must love me
and Sound
this obviously does not give it critical credibility

Why are we talking about some stupid box office. The question, if I am reading right is what is the Best Evita Recording.....
It is hard to say in my opinion which is the best as I cannot stand Mandy Patinkin. I do however, like Patti. So I enjoy that cd.
I also like Elaine Paige in the role and think she sang it well.
But overall, I enjoy the movie soundtrack. I know that many people say FLOP -- blah blah blah. We are talking aboiut sound. And the truth is the show music was very good.
But I am suprised that no one talked about Julie Cuvington in the role.
So does anyone else like the movie EVITA? Does anyone else think that as far as the orchestra that was the best version? What do you think of "You Must Love Me?" What about Antonio Banderas?
well, that's not what i was doing bronxboundexpress. there are alot of good things in EVITA. the only reason I was pointing out to you it was a flop was because you were insisting it wasn't one to begin with.
