Since the Tony Awards are approaching, I thought I'd share these 3 videos I came across on YouTube. An (almost) complete history of the Best Leading Actress in a Musical category. The winners from 1947 - 1949 seem to be left off. Some pretty great photos and sounds. Hopefully this gets everyone just a little more excited for next month

Some pretty talented ladies...

Heck with the past. Put up links for current nominees. That would be more Pertinent.
^You're ignorant.
Thanks for the links, what a treat!
I love the number of "character" voices in the earliest years of the award. (And hearing even snippets of scores I'm not familiar with.)

Bumping for Tony day. Just in case you can't remember a specific past winner...
Hope everyone has fun watching tonight!
These are great!
Thanks for posting them.
EDIT: No ladies from the '40s? There were two: Grace Hartman (Angel in the Wings) and Nanette Fabray (Love Life).
And here's one kid, acting them all out, in his bedroom:

This is wonderful, and makes me even more excited for tonight.
Why was no award given in 85?

on Wikipedia they have a great list of all the nominees and winners ----

Not enough performances were eligible in 1985. There weren't even four in each category. It was a horrible year for musicals.
A few leads were petitioned into the "featured" category, but the few who were above the title were left out in the cold (Ben Vareen and Stubby Kaye from Grind, most notably). Leilani Jones was petitioned into "featured" and she won the award. Mary Beth Piel, who played Anna in The King and I, was nominated for "featured."
Since Big River had "favored nations" billing (alphabetical, all below the title), no petitioning was needed, and Dan Jenkins was nominated as "featured" for playing Huck in Big River. Ron Richardson, who played Jim, won the award.
