I know it's hard, but resources are out there to support you. You're not alone.

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

I think the best role to play currently on Broadway is Alan Strang in Equus. Phantom is also quite a role, despite the fact that he's only on stage for like twenty minutes, but I feel like when an actor's playing the Phantom, he's just "The Phantom"-- the show's too much of a... machine for really standout original performances. Still, it's very interesting to hear the subtle differences between different actors.

As for recently closed shows-- definitely Mama Rose in Gypsy.

Violet in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY.

ETA: And Hedda Gabler.

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

hmm...Let's see...
There's title roles like Mary Poppins and the Phantom. I guess it's kinda cool to wake up in the morning and say "I'm Mary Poppins"
Then there's roles like Elphaba or Frankie valli which are pretty awesome too.
Now I know this is gonna sound sappy-But for me-the part that I am most jealous of (since that's how I took the title of this thread!) changes. It's whoever is making their Broadway Debut. Whether the role is a Blade of Grass in Lion King, or the lead in the "next big thing". Nothing beats waking up and saying-"I'm on Broadway"!

Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

Depends if you're going for 'best' meaning; the most critically acclaimed, most aspired to or the most seen role in a successful show.

I agree with Neverandy, having a title role in a successful show could be argued as the 'best' role to have right now.

Hedda Gabler and Barbara Weston.

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

As of late there have been far too many stellar shows on the Great White Way to properly rank the best. :)
How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

OT, but ThankstoPhantom, thank you for your signature. I got a hundre on my research paper (the first my teacher has given this year) because my only mistakes grammar wise was the use of its/it's. =) Lame.

Barbara Fordham. Every bit as meaty as Violet, but with twice the stage time. And, let's face it, actors love them some stage time. So I vote Barbara Fordham from A:OC.

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

I'd say Phantom just because it's been on broadway for like 20 years and it's just an iconic role... but i also feel like it's one of those characters where the normal every day person/tourist who sees the show can care less about who's playing the Phantom... i guess you can say that about any role but this is a more iconic role...

Frankie Valli

you have to be a Hell of a singer, mover, concert performer, and a dramatic actor who can show both youth and age, bravada and insecurity, spanning over 40 years. Not to mention the fact that you are alone on stage for the last twenty minutes and have to command the audience.

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

There is a heavy difference between the BEST role and the most CHALLENGING role. Elphaba is by no means 'the best role' on Broadway. She is written with obvious holes in her character and doesn't exactly showcase a whole lot when it comes to acting (IMO). Vocally, she is a bitch and a half...not to mention the heavy make up and costumes. I think it is legit to say Elphie is one of the more difficult roles on Broadway, maybe not THE most difficult...but she's up there.

Diana probably the most difficult character on Broadway right now. It's a character that goes through a diverse range of emotions and with a moderately difficult score to sing. Is it the best, maybe.

My favorite role is Claude in hair and Velma in Chicago.

Billy Elliot and Frankie Valli for the male roles. Female roles Maria, Anita. Glinda and Elphie you need chemistry like the current two.

Anita...I forgot about her. She actually might be my favorite role on B'way.

re: Best Role On Broadway Right Now

For some reason, I always think of supporting roles as being 'best'. You get an opportunity to steal scenes and make big impressions in relatively little stage time, and they're often open to more freedom for preformers than the lead. Given that, the first role that came to mind was Mama Morton in Chicago.

The understudy Matthew H, for Tony, is even worse than Matt C.
