I think the music from Bonnie and Clyde is fantastic. I'm not familiar with any of the music from Newsies. What are some your opinions?

I love Alan Menken but I really want Bonnie & Clyde to win Best Score.

There will be no award presented for this category this year.

In its place at the Tony ceremony, a tearful Liza Minelli will share with us her philosophies about the death of God and the theory that all human endeavour is pointless and futile.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

^ Yes, please!

As much as I love Newsies, I really want Bonnie and Clyde to win on the account that it is a fully original score.

This is ridiculously difficult. They're both fantastic scores, two of my favorite to hit the Broadway stage in the last ten years - and both of them feature Jeremy Jordan, who truly is a brilliant vocalist, whatever the non-singing majority on this board says. I would go with Bonnie & Clyde, purely because Newsies is more or less a lock for Best Musical and Wildhorn deserves at least one Tony. This was easily his best score.

I'm really hoping Bonnie and Clyde wins also. My all time favorite score, hands down, is A Chorus Line....many moons ago I remember playing the 8 track (yes, remember those?) till it died. This is the first score I've listened to, since then, that I don't want to skip any of the songs and the songs don't sound similar. That is what, in my opinion, made A Chorus Line so successful. I could actually imagine hearing some of these songs on the radio. Go B&C!

PETER AND THE STARCATCHERS.

The old NEWSIES stuff is great, the new stuff not so much.
B&C is a bunch of pop songs that sound like other pop songs, it does nothing for character or storytelling. It probably doesn't sound half bad on a CD but it is third or fourth rate as a show score at best.

IMO

I'm very upset and confused about Follies not being eligible for Best Score. I know it came out a long time ago but I still think it should be eligible because it was from this season. The songs felt new! And I don't think a score should be disqualified for not technically being new. If it can't be Follies, it should be Lysistrata Jones. Those are two of the best scores ever, and stand side-by-side in the canon of musical theater history.

^ It was a revival.... The award is for an ORIGINAL and NEW score.

Follies isn't new music, just like A Chorus Line wasn't a few years back... Needs to be now.

Honestly, i'd be happy if either of them won. They're both fantastic scores. I can't really pick one over the other.

I realize all that... I'm saying that I think if a revival makes the music FEEL new, it should be eligible for Best Score. And that's what this revival of Follies did, I'm sure.

Does anyone remember the show Next to Normal? I thought that was a fantastic score.

Although B&C closed a while ago, the release of its cast recording renewed the interest in the show. Overall, while "Newsies" has some great numbers, the many of the new songs didn't live up the old works. I like both shows (I haven't see Peter or OMOG yet) but I think B&C might have the edge over Newsies on this one.

If they don't give the award to one of the plays then I think it should go to Bonnie and Clyde. Remember only the new songs from Newsies are technically nominated so the best songs in the show like "Santa Fe," "King of New York," and "Seize the Day" are not actually eligible. The new songs just aren't as good as the rest of them and the score for Bonnie and Clyde is consistently solid. I would vote for Bonnie and Clyde.

scott....catagory is best "original" score....sure, new takes on songs will make them modern and "better", but it's not original.

I realize all that... I'm saying that I think if a revival makes the music FEEL new, it should be eligible for Best Score. And that's what this revival of Follies did, I'm sure.

The award is for the writing of the score itself, not the performances by the actors, how it's staged, directed, etc. That's why there are different categories that revivals are eligible for. You may have loved the revival of Follies but nothing was new about the score barring a couple of cuts. It would make no sense to award the almost-identical score a Tony 40 years after it debuted on Broadway.

Does anyone remember the show Next to Normal? I thought that was a fantastic score.

No, I have no recollection of a show that closed a year and a half ago. Please enlighten us.

If there were an award for "one song" that was the best of the year, there is no question in my mind, that "How 'Bout A Dance" from Bonnie and Clyde would win. Even my teen age son likes that tune. Nuts. And it's a ballad! And he hates me taking him to shows. It's a fight every time!

no more opinions on this? Again, I have not heard one song from Newsies, I'm sure I can you tube it and hear. Just waiting to do that till I hear a great battle on here. I want more opinions! Opinions at this point, seem pretty clear.

Peter deserves it.
Newsies will probably take it.
They will never give it to Frank Wildhorn.

Can't wait for the firestorm this is going to cause....but who can read, and who can't? People saying a play should win, are lame. What show has the best music? If you still think a play does, I have a number for a doctor you can call.
