Bernadette Peters just announced new concert dates. And get this, her last concerts are in June 2019 in the UK! Could these be vocal warmups for the rumoured summer mounting of Hello, Dolly!?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Well..I don't know if you are referring to a particular article or what. But her immediate family is just her and her husband. Her daughter is working on a film for most of this year. And Bette has always travelled a lot. And she loves being on the road...
The latest info from someone who is apparently a reliable source is there is no Bette. There is no Bernadette. There is no Dolly. It isnt happening.
Damn.

Doesn't surprise me- No shows- London- for Bette doing Dolly- I was surprised that the show did not last longer on Broadway. It is a very expensive production- and has no legs without Bette- or that is apparently what the producers thought or it would still be running. I can't put my finger on why it is not a huge draw- any more than I can say why The Producers did not run ten years with all of its Tonys and rapturous reviews- it just happens sometimes. Dolly- like The Producers- needs a certain cast to draw huge audiences and prices. Strange but true.
I think the producers did ask other actresses who they thought could bring in $$$ and people to the Shubert theater to prolong the run but either the producers didn't offer them enough money or they kindly turned down the offer due to scheduling conflicts.
