Most of us don't either. My only explanation is that it started with Lin on Twitter and went from there (similar to #YayHamlet). Jonathan Groff doesn't have a twitter, so that is how Lin was tagging him.

Nope, that's wrong. Lin has always called him Groffsauce. It's not a twitter thing, it's just his nickname for him.

Nope, that's wrong. Lin has always called him Groffsauce. It's not a twitter thing, it's just his nickname for him. "

I meant that it started spreading from Lin through twitter. The normal theatregoer didn't call him Groffsauce before seeing Lin on twitter. Once people started seeing #Groffsauce, the name spread to non-Lin people.

Lin states that there is no straight male equivalent.   Then he comes up with one that is pretty perfect.   No wonder he got a genius grant.
