re: Beyonce singing

You should really consider getting some professional help. I am bored with you now, I am off to seek more intelligent conversations elsewhere.

<< For those who might be interested... I watched an interview that was done today on ITV in Britian with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. During the course of the interview it was mentioned that he will be accompanying Beyonce when she sings his song.>>

He went on to say "I think that they really really would like to have stars" (he had suggested Minnie Driver but had no control over the production). He speculated that they were competing in a ratings race with whatever programming was opposite and were concerned because the Golden Globes had not done well in the ratings.

re: Beyonce singing

"Whitney, Mariah and Celine also never catered their music to "kids." They appealed to all types of audiences. And that's why Miss Knowles was singing "Dangerously In Love" along with "Crazy In Love."

During that time everybody was into the power-ballads..kids at my high school were walking around singing "My Hear Will Go On." Now my high-school aged cousins are singing "Goodies" It's not that Whitney, Mariah, and Celine were on another level as far as MATERIAL, they were just singing what was in the market then. Best believe if Celine came out right now she would be singin "Baby Boy" or "Toxic" or hell even "Genie In A Bottle" if she wanted to be mainstream.

"Trust me, Alicia Keys has far more critical acclaim and respect than Miss Knowles. "

Prove it.

"Exactly what kind of other dances was Bee doing? Flipping her weave to the side?"

If you actually watched any of her performances other than the ones on major network TV or went to her concerts you would know and you wouldn't have to ask me. GO BUY THE DVD!

"You've chewed and spit on legends like Whitney and Mariah to make your Beyonce look great. She will never be half the vocalist those women are."

I didn't bring Whitney and Mariah into this debate. Someone else brought them up in comparison and I responded. I never discussed their vocals as compared to Beyonce. We were talking about DANCING! Re-read my post so next time you don't get it twisted.

re: Beyonce singing

I have really tried to steer clear of this thread, but can’t resist now that this foolishness of a “5 octave” voice is being bandied about. When Whitney Houston hit the scene, the Arista PR machine was in overdrive billing her as the “One with the 5-octave Voice” that turned out to be about 3 in a stretch when the poor thing was at the height of her powers.

Technically, neither Beyoncé Knowles nor Alicia Keys has a singing voice that is anything to write home about. The voice of the former is shrill with little volume and that of the latter is MONOTONOUS. Alicia’s recent Grammy duet with Jamie Foxx confirmed my suspicions that her voice is inflexible limiting her to good performances only when she performs her own music. Does anybody remember when she butchered Luther Vandross’ cover hit “A House Is Not a Home” before? She sounded like she was singing about a piece of furniture. Perhaps she still lacks the life experience to really connect emotionally with the piece.

However, that aside, Alicia with her songwriting abilities and pedestrian singing voice, similar to the voices of Stevie Wonder, Sting, and Phil Collins will go down in history as hitmaker extraordinaire long after Beyoncé enjoys her 15 minutes. BTW neither of those gentlemen possesses what anybody would consider a top-notch singing voice either. Stevie’s sound has ALWAYS been nasal and throaty. But they have the ability, which Alicia appears to have inherited, of penning songs that have a timeless quality to them. Folks will be humming and singing Alicia’s tune for decades, long after Beyoncé makes the rounds of the where-are-they-now cable TV circuit.

I personally think that Beyonce’s gimmick, kept afloat largely by Daddy Dearest’s influence peddling, has nearly run its course. She has some talent indeed. But she benefited greatly from: (1) that WEAVE and her coloring, (2) Daddy Dearest’s business acumen, and (3) marketplace timing, i.e. kids downloading instead of buying, Whitney/Mariah imploding, Celine/Janet aging, hip-hop squeezing real talent out of the market, etc. Nearly forgot, I’d like to see Beyoncé and Alicia acquit themselves in the lead role of a Broadway musical 8 performances a week to separate the wheat from the chaff. For now though let’s just get it overwith; bring on her Richter-scale-registering vibrato and runs from here to China and back through the 3 songs she’s slated to perform shortly. And then let her exit stage forever. Haters bring it on because truth requires no ally!

re: Beyonce singing

Points 2 and 3 apply to Alicia as well. Just substitute Mr. Knowles for Clive Davis. Point 1, most female performers wear weave, wigs, extensions, so what's your point?

re: Beyonce singing

If you need proof that Alicia has more critical acclaim than Beyonce, then you're stuck up Beyonce's a** deeper than I thought.

Celine Dion singing "Goodies?" Celine has stuck to what she does best...even with today's "kids" wanting to dance.

And you've failed to point out what other types of dances Miss Knowles has done besides shake her weave and swivel her butt from side to side. And your assertion that Mya is more "trained" than Beyonce is also ridiculous. Mr. Cult-leader, er Matthew, put those girls through dance lessons as well as singing lessons (and Bee has yet to show she's really learned a thing...yodeling is her forte and will always be).

I really don't think Alicia is a GREAT singer either but I'll take her warblings over Nappy's right now.

Between Beyonce's shrillness and Fantasia's howling, the urban youth of today are truly suffering if that's all that's being shoved down their throats.

You obviously have something against Beyonce. Name callin proves that you're not interested in having a real debate about these performers. Your opinions are formed from "hate"

>>Celine Dion singing "Goodies?" Celine has stuck to what she does best...even with today's "kids" wanting to dance.>>>

I said if Celine came out with a record FOR THE FIRST TIME today. Not if Celine Dion came out with a new song. Next.

>>>And your assertion that Mya is more "trained" than Beyonce is also ridiculous.Mr. Cult-leader, er Matthew, put those girls through dance lessons as well as singing lessons (and Bee has yet to show she's really learned a thing...>>>

This is from Mya's bio.

Trained as a dancer, Mya appeared onstage at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Smithsonian and the Shakespeare Theater before releasing her self-titled debut CD at the age of 18.

Mya (she says she was named for Maya Angelou) was two years old when her father stood her in the Reflecting Pool between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial-and she danced. She started ballet classes immediately, then tap and jazz. At 12,she studied tapes of Tony Award winner Savion Glover, the tap dance prodigy now best-known for the Broadway hit Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk, until she learned his routines and then joined the group T.W.A. (Tappers With Attitude). She went solo before heading to New York to study with Glover in a residency with the famed Dance Theater of Harlem. Soon after, she earned a reputation for improvisation and an impressed Glover gave her a solo spot during a Kennedy Center performance. Mya has subsequently appeared on BET's "Teen Summit" and has taught dance to children ever since she herself was 14: "I teach them there's no limit to their dreams."

From a Rolling Stone article on Beyonce.

Beyonce took lessons as a child at St.Mary's Catholic school in Houston texas. The "boot camps" didn't start until after they lost on StarSearch and Matthew quit his job which would put Beyonce around 11. The would job while singing, they had team building excercises, choreography lessons, vocal coaching, media training, and walking lessons from a model.

Me

Most of the dancing they did was hip-hop. They probably had intro courses in tap or jazz but not to the extent that Mya has been trained. Beyonce's main focus was singing and for a long time Mya's focus was dancing before she decided to pursue singing. Savion Glover vs St. Mary's Catholic School? hmmmm? The Kennedy Center vs Matthew's Bootcamp?? I think it's clear who has had more proffesional training and experience in dancing.

<<<>>

In her concert DVD, Beyonce talks about working with choreographers and taking diffrent classes to improve her dancing in her solo show. For a more indepth explanation BUY THE DVD!

>>>Between Beyonce's shrillness and Fantasia's howling, the urban youth of today are truly suffering if that's all that's being shoved down their throats. >>>

The urban youth?? It's not only urban youth that's buying their CDz, especially Beyonce. Beyonce was never shoved down anybody's throats. Destiny's Child's first CD did so-so. As they gained popularity (CD sales) then they recieved more media attention. So it's the youth that chose her/them not the other way around. Also, what is considered youth because I know 50 year olds who bump Beyonce.

Truth - why don't you just go join Tonyafanatic in the looney bin?

I've had enough of you annoying Beyonce fans.

re: Beyonce singing

And if Celine Dion came out today, she sure as hell would not be singing anything like Goodies. That's because she can actually SING. She wouldn't ride off the coattails of a rapper either (to give herself more street credibility...cough...Bee...cough) And if Bee had the same number of years training in dance, she'd never be as good as Mya. Whatever else you have to say is moot. Blah, blah, blah. You can spend the next eternity praising that overrated woman for all I care. NEXT!!!!

re: Beyonce singing

In addition to her good taste in music Silent, Celine doesn't have to come out with anything for the ghetto palette because folks plump down much loot to see her at her home venue in Las Vegas where her act hauls in roughly $75 million a year at last count. Plus the "polyglot" Miss Dion has sold over 175 million records worldwide. See http://www.caesars.com/Caesars/LasVegas/Entertainment/ANewDay/AbouttheShow.htmhttp://www.caesars.com/Caesars/LasVegas/Entertainment/ANewDay/AbouttheShow.htm I hope that Alicia & Celine can work together in the future. That would be a good matchup of talent. Celine has also announced that she will be raising $1,000,000 US in support of the tsunami victims on Mother's Day via her concert. See http://www.caesars.com/Caesars/LasVegas/Entertainment/ANewDay/AbouttheShow.htmhttp://www.caesars.com/Caesars/LasVegas/Entertainment/ANewDay/AbouttheShow.htm for details. I write all this to say that an entertainer of her stature does not need to hog up the telecast of some award show, neither by hook nor crook.

Sheryl Crow, who has worked with everybody who is somebody in the record business, has hinted that EVERYONE in the business is now trying to get her to hookup with Alicia as well. All this bodes well for the future of Miss Alicia J. Augello-Cook aka Alicia Keys. Saving any unforeseen tragedy, she's gonna be a hitmaker for a longtime. As for Bee, let her go on and marry Jigga and drop the twins Jayzilla & Jayzetta, lol.

re: Beyonce singing

"please get over it."

Take some of your own advice.

You post nothing of any merit on this board unless it has to do with Jamie Foxx, racism, Beyonce, or CAROLINE OR CHANGE - and even then no one takes you seriously. Why don't you go join a different message board...you know...one that isn't about broadway?

re: Beyonce singing

Let me explain something to you Munkey...

I can say WHATEVER I want to on this board. No im not joining another board because I DONT HAVE TO. I love theatre. but that doesnt mean that that's all i have to limit myself to musically.
I dont appreciate it when people are judged by people who dont know anything about them. If I feel like somebody is saying stupid things I CORRECT them. BECAUSE IM AN AMERICAN HONEY AND IT'S MY RIGHT TO.
and munkey honey dont get mad because i put u in ya little dark dank place about jamie foxx. i dont know if it was you but somebody said his performance was an impersonation, and i had to put them in their place. and someone kept mindlessly yapping about Ms. Pinkins' singing in CAROLINE, I had to put them in their place. And obviously you are talking me seriously because you spent your precious little time pounding away at your keyboard to tell me to join another board. the bottom line is this:
1.IVE PROVEN EVERYBODY ON HERE A HATER
2.NOTHING YOU SAY HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH FACTS
3.AND YOURE JUST MAD BECAUSE I TELL IT LIKE IS, NOT HOW YOU WANT IT TO BE, AND IM GONNA DO IT AGAIN:

BEYONCE KNOWLES WILL BE PERFORMING 3 SONGS AT THE ACADEMY AWARDS
SHE HAS SOLD 10S OF MILLIONS OF ALBUMS ALL OVER THE WORLD
SHE HAS MILLIONS OF LOYAL FANS(LIKE ME)
SHE WRITES EVERY SONG THAT COMES OUT OF HER HEAVENLY MOUTH (EXCEPT "EMOTIONS" WHICH WAS WRITTRN BY THE BEEGEES)
SHE HAS A STRONG 5 OCTAVE RANGE
SHE'S BEAUTIFUL
SHE'S WON 8 GRAMMYS
SHE CAN DANCE
SHE WEARS WEAVE JUST LIKE KRISTIN CHENOWETH(WHOM I LOVE, IM JUST PROVING A POINT BECAUSE UNLIKE YOU ALL IM NOT A HATER) AND SO WHAT?
SHE PRODUCES ALL HER SONGS
SHE IS A DYNAMO IN THE INDUSTRY
AND SHE DOESNT USE BACKING TRACKS UNLESS SHE'S DANCING, AND EVEN THEN WHEN SHE SINGS IN THE MIKE THE TRACK GOES OFF.
I MEAN WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY?
BESIDES STOP HATING. A LIFE OF HATE IS A LIFE OF WASTE.
GIVE IT UP WHERE IT'S DUE.

And did you read my response to you in reference to Jamie Foxx, or did it go right over your head?

You are rediculous.

You have an obsession with the word "hater" - now isn't THAT the pot calling the kettle black.

re: Beyonce singing

Who in the hell put you in charge? You have to "put people in their place" because you don't agree with their opinion? You are right sweetie, this is America, and in America people are allowed to have opinions whether or not you agree with them. I don't agree with some of the things people say on this board, but I don't feel the need to post in ALL CAPS, call people names, or "put them in their place". Differences in opinion are what make these boards interesting. One simple question such as which version of Les Miz should I buy can spark hundreds of different opinions. Who cares if someone likes/dislikes Byonce? Is it really that important? Lay off the caps and psychotic rants and seriously get yourself some professional help.

re: Beyonce singing

Guess who is going to be accompanying Beyonce on the piano when she sings LEARN TO BE LONELY from PHANTOM OF THE OPERA re: Beyonce singing

Andrew Lloyd Webber himself!

I have seen the actual clips from the ALW interview on the UK TV show THIS MORNING ( Wednesday airing) and found out this much --

*ALW initially suggested Minnie Driver to sing the song, but the powers-that-be in the OSCARs event ruled that out. According to ALW, he has been told that there is a "big ratings battle" issue involved. It seems that the GOLDEN GLOBES telecast saw a ratings drop and there is concern that other networks are working aggressively to match the OSCARs attraction. The organizers opted for a more well known entertainer, hence, Beyonce. There is no insinuation at all that Minnie Driver cannot handle the performance ( she did sing the song, while the PHANTOM credits were being shown).

*ALW said he was going to be performing on the show with Beyonce, although they haven't worked together yet.
