lemme tell all of yall sumthin. GOSPEL music is one of THE hardest styles of music to sing. Beyonce has a 5 octave range-just like ms chenoweth. kristin cant sing gospel. but i bet you beyonce could belt out "Glitter and be Gay" with the best of them. And furthermore, Beyonce does not have a POP voice. she has a GOSPEL trained voice. buy her album and youll see. thanx.
and bernadette has a beautiful tone to her voice, but she is not a GREAT singer. and dont even get me started on Idina. oh yea she can sing her ASS off and i love her just as much as the next queen but um Beyonce can SING. and why does beyonce not deserve it? exactly why? u cant say it's because she's overrated. i think many actors on broadway are very overrated and overexposed. jus tell the truth people! u dont believe people in the music business are good enough to do theatre material just based on that fact. because they didnt go to CCM or struggle on broadway. Singers experience their own trials and tribulations to get where they want to go in life. they deserve the same respect as someone who wants to do other things in life. and not to play the race card or anything but i honestly believe black performers arent respected ANYWAY. so im not surprised by the comments. except for you ljay.
ps ljay- i kno u wanna get technical vocally about stuff but in gospel music mezzo isnt really valid.

i was at a church in houston when destinys child was doing their gospel concert and Beyonce sang a song called Total Praise and she blew the roof off with a "Mariah" note.

I didn't say ineloquent. I also didn't say you were stupid.

But after your mindless rant about Jamie Foxx, I can't help but wonder. You never did respond to my rebuttal about Jamie Foxx, why is that Miss. Eloquent?

i have to agree with TonyaFanatic if it had been Bernadette or Kristin or Idina or Eden chosen to sing the whole damn Oscar show including belting out the nominees and the winners the majority of this board would be peeing on themeselves with glee. you're all a bunch of haters and you can post until your fingers bleed but that will not change the fact that Miss Beyoncé Knowles will be singing 3 songs on the show so all you haters need to get over it. If you don't like don't watch it.

5 octaves?! That's amazing. If it's true.... I know of singers with 4, but 5???!!!

and also

eeewwww josh groban
nice voice, but why does he sing such crappy celine-style songs? 90% of his sappy songs make me want to throw up. But that's beside the point....

I'm sorry but I just had to jump in. How much is Sony paying the Beyonce street team to infest these message boards? Or maybe you're just family members. I swear everytime I log into a message board and the subject of Beyonce comes up, someone will point out that she is an over-hyped lightweight and then the kid gloves come off and people come out swinging. Strange thing is that all the people getting up in arms about the fact that the woman has a VERY MEDIOCRE VOICE eventually reveal that they are either from Houston or New York! Now how odd is that? Beyonce is from Houston isn't she? Her record label is in New York isn't it? Guess what? Middle America doesn't give a damn about Beyonce or think she's that talented. That's why she only sold about 4 million CD's when Britney was selling 10 million. Mariah sold 10 million. Shania sold 10 million. Whitney sold 10 million, yet Beyonce hasn't. With all the tons of money Sony has spent to market this girl you'd think she would have sold more records. The group comes back and their sales are already doing better than Beyonce's solo efforts. Doesn't that tell ANYONE something?

Do you really think that trying to force people to think that Beyonce really is the next best thing since sliced bread is going to work? It's already starting to backfire. She is a very pretty girl with a very mediocre talent. She doesn't even begin to measure up to the singing greats like Aretha, Whitney, Mariah, Dinah, Chaka, Celine, Sarah B., etc., etc., etc..... She is a packaged pretty face that Sony is desperately trying to sell to America by over-marketing her, and the worst abuses are on these message boards. My God! Her street team is almost as bad as Mariah Carey's and Michael Jackson's.

maura shut your hole. i am not a shill and i sure as hell am not part of a "street team" (whatever the hell that is). i am a fan. period. YOU may think she's mediocre, but YOU are NOT everybody. so before you go through the trouble of breaking a precious fingernail on your keyboard i will set you straight on that, not that i have to explain anything to you. YOU don't like Beyoncé? SO WHAT is all I have to say to that. I'm certainly not going to cry in my pillow tonight because you just shared that revelation to me.

It still doesn't change the fact that she will sing count 'em THREE songs at the Oscars...you can choose to watch it or you can choose to tune it out. She will sing, and she will do us Beyoncé fans proud because she will be stellar without a doubt.

Now take THAT and put it in your pipe and SMOKE IT.

or better yet build yourself a bridge and

GET OVER IT.

EXCUSE ME... I agree with Maura. I do not believe that Beyonce has a GOOD five octave range. Don't compare her to Cheno... Cheno is much more talented than Beyonce is. If she does have a 5 octave range [sure..] it is probably not as strong as Cheno's is... nor will it ever be. tonyafanatic... do you even like Broadway? Do you listen to it? Because it seems to me that you are here to torture the ones who enjoy watching and listening to Broadway music. As I said before... to everyone... It wouldn't bother as much if she sang one song, but she is singing THREE. she didn't earn it or deserve it ... they picked her because she has a pretty face and because she might bring in viewers, not because she was talented. If they had really chosen someone for talent, she would not have been at the top of the list.

People! Are you serious? Do I even like Broadway? I love Broadway. But I also love other music. And if someone said something bad about a Broadway actor I think is incredible, I would be just as upset. This is to Maura: YOU SOUND VERY STUPID.
Im a fan of Beyonce Knowles. Not a "street team" member or whatever the hell that is. im from chester, pa. not houston or new york dumb ass. i dont want anybody to think i dont like broadway music. i think its the only music that can incorporate all music. and i love ALL music. And for that Maura: britney spears sold 10 million while beyonce sold 4 million? who the **** cares about britney spears? she DEFINITELY cant sing. if you guys feel like she beyonce is MEDIOCRE, fine just be able to back that up with facts. you cant deny she's extremely talented. you cant. period. im done

and kangaroo just to prove that youre jus one of the many people who hear one song by beyonce, hear a destinys child song maybe once or twice and make up in your mind the measure of her talent. you would know she has a five octave range(which is standard for people who have a gospel background) if you listened to her album. or watched her performances on tv. went to hear the girl sing once. but no you CANT BACK IT UP. DONT GET MAD. AND TO MAURA: STOP LYING, BEYONCE'S ALBUM, "DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE" HAS SOLD 12 MILLION COPIES AROUND THE WORLD. MOSTLY IN ENGLAND. OH IF U DIDNT KNOW PLATINUM= 1 MILLION.

Trust me, I love my Beyonce. But I seriously doubt she has the same range as Kristin Chenoweth, nor does she have as much of the training Cheno has. You really can't compare them.

Beyonce is very talented, I'm a fan. I will say she has a wonderful range. R&B is my favorite style of music outside of Broadway music. I love some Aaliyah (my girl, RIP), Mary J, Faith Evans, Monica..and many others.

Maura, I'm a diehard Beyonce fan and I'm from Michigan. I don't think that it's just Beyonce related issues that people come out gunning for. Me, I've been getting tired of the elitist/prejiduce/narrow-minded/ignorant opinions that run rampant on this board. In the past, I've let a bit of it slide but it's something about this 2005 that's been keeping me hyped.

As far as Beyonce's record sales. Artists are not selling nearly as much as they did in the past because of piracy. Also, Beyonce sold way more than 10 million records from Destiny's Child's second CD "The Writings On The Wall." She also has 8 Grammys (5solo) and numerous songwriting awards. That's just the tip of the Beyonce iceburg.

People, ok how old are we? LOL Calm down everyone. Beyonce is wonderful, 3 songs is a lot for the most talented singer. Kristin is wonderful. BEyonce belting Glitter and be Gay would be the most foolish thing I've ever heard, not to mention stupid. THat's why Beyonce doesn't do it. She does what she's great at, R&B. On the same token Kristen singing Bills Bills Bills would be equally as foolish. I mean can you compare them? They're sooooo different and I'm sure they aren't competing with each other. I'm sure they don't even care LOL. Let them be successful in their own realms. I'm sure Beyonce will be her usual fierce self. I personally wouldn't want to hear anyone sing 3 songs at any awards show. NOt Kristen, not Audra and not Beyonce. I think those awards should show some variety. But that night will be about the awards sooo let's just watch and stop arguing. None of this will change a thing. Both Kristin and Beyonce are home counting they're respective fans. And they are both wonderful! Updated On: 2/13/05 at 09:01 PM

PS And for the the record. Gospel is hard to sing but Gospel is not a style of music. It's purpose is for worship. So you have to be in the faceof God for it to be the best. Opera is hard to sing too it takes technique and YEARS of training. Gospel music doesn't take that much training. Beleive me, I sing both AND yes I'm black LOL. I dunno why that matters. Oh And No one has a 5 ovtave range. It's impossible. A piano only has something like 7. Most women with huge ranges really probably have about 3 and a half TRUE octaves, which is STILL amazing!

I think Beyonce will pull it off. She's shown a different side of her voice several times. Even in the short Pepsi commercial, she sings in a semi-operatic voice.

While I do enjoy most of Beyonce's solo work, she wasn't picked to sing 3 songs at the Oscars because of this supposed "5 octave" range. She was selected to sing to bring in viewers, just as someone else pointed out.

and she will bring in the viewers because she's popular and talented and has a huge fan base and she can sing just about anything she sets her mind to. the woman is amazing. period.
