Yeah, his tweet was this:

the_phantomMy announcement on the eighth day of October will be at eleven o?clock in the morning, British time. The Phantom.

I rather like the follow-up by a fan who has put up a mirror site:

>>Wait what?

I thought the ending of POTO was meant to leave it ambiguous whether it was a 'ghost' or a 'man'.<<

See, now you're getting Phantom and Next to Normal confused!

When the show was announced, they hoped to have it as the first show in the new Henry Miller which obviously didn't work.
Please kitty, shred the libretto again AND delete it on Final Draft!

I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

Alas! That kitty was killed by a car, and none of his other cats seem to have had the good taste or the dexterity to finish the job, and it's too late now.

(Forgive me if this is posted more than once; BWW is having major problems for me right now..)

The new LND article here on BWW says 'The Heart is Slow to Learn' (which was re-arranged and appeared as 'Our Kind of Love' in The Beautiful Game for a short time) will be in Phantom 2.

This is good news, in my opinion. It's quite a lovely song. Then again, it's the plot most people are worried about, not the music.

The article also says Sierramin will perform bits of songs at the London press conference tomorrow, but that was expected.

I love that Heart is Slow to Learn. I hope that closes out the show. If what the article says is true about it being a great romantic score, I am super excited!

I have a feeling "The heart is slow to learn" will be the song Christine sings at the concert or in the Phantom's new opera or whatever it is. Besides, didn't Don Black write the lyrics for this song? Glenn Slater is the lyricist for "Love Never Dies". I suppose they'll give an additional lyrics credit to Don the way they did with Richard Stilgoe?

My imagining is that it's like the equivalent of Wishing This Song had a Shorter Title in Phantom 1. And if the lyrics aren't changed, then it sounds like Christine is singing it to/about... The Phantom?? So... I guess she did love him?.. And apparently she will love him until she dies?... But wouldn't it be longer than that because LOVE NEVER DIES? (Someone stop me, please...)

I do hope the cast recording is out before Christmas like Lord Andy said it would be a while ago. I'm liking what I've heard of the music, and, as I said on another board, I'd buy a recording of Ramin Karimloo singing a McDonalds menu, LOL.

When I heard the song would be used once again for the sequel, I thought it couldn't possibly be the version with the Don Black lyrics? I actually thought he would keep it for the title song, "Love Never Dies..."

Well, like I said, the Don Black lyrics would sort of fit Christine singing about the Phantom. Or vice versa.

Do we know that there will be a song called Love Never Dies? I suppose it would make sense. "Loove Neeeeeever Diesss" does rhythmically fit in the first line of the chorus.

I wonder if they'll add synths into the orchestration of the song. re: Big Phantom Love Never Dies announcement, original Phantom to close?

And on another note, I really want ALW to add in No One Would Listen, a cut song from the movie. It's beautiful. If they had kept it in, I probably wouldn't despise the movie as much. Probably.

To me, it sounds like a song the Phantom would have written for his new opera. But that's just me.

God, the suspense is killing me. I'm not in Britain so I don't even know what the time is. When are we going to start hearing more news? I want to see the logo. I want to see a full website. I want to hear more of the music.

An article on this site says this about the music..
--------------------------------------------------------
Rialto Chatter has learned that "The Heart Is Slow To Learn", a number that debuted at Lord Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday concert and who's melody was used for the song "Our Kind Of Love" in his 2000 West End musical 'The Beautiful Game', will again return as part of the 'PHANTOM' sequel. Another song that struck a chord with people who have heard the score is the dark and romantic "Fortune Teller." Vocally the "Phantom" and "Christine" will be very different from their original musical identities. Interestingly, an audience member who witnessed the last full workshop, remarked that "Love Never Dies" is "a worthy chapter in the Phantom's story" and the most "romantic music we've heard in years."
-----------------------------------------------------------
Vocally very different? ...but the most romantic someone has heard in years....
verrrry interesting.

--and it is, of course a matter of opinion, but "No One Would Listen" just sounds like a kind of generic Lloyd Webber ballad. It was written so that he would have a song eligible for the Academy Awards (it didn't win).

I don't get how Christine could be vocally different. Some article somewhere mentioned Sierra's "soaring soprano" voice in the LND demos. Sounds like normal Christine to me. The Phantom, however, has had a multitude of different vocal types over the years, depending on the actor. Ramin likes to give his Phantom a rock edge, and he also enjoys belting and shrieking. (At the end. He goes NUTS in Final Lair. I don't know how his "Go now and leave me"-s don't shred his vocal cords. He does a full-on scream for that line.)

& I'm getting up early tomorrow for all the 'important announcing'. It better be worth it. If I wake up and it's "RAMIN KARIMLOO AND SIERRA BOGGESS ARE THE STARS!", I'll fly to London and strangle ALW. I value sleep very much, and with all the buildup, this announcement better be good. Most of all, I want to see the logo! I've been trying to imagine what it would be like ever since Phantom 2 was announced last time 10 years ago! So technically I've been waiting to see this image for a decade...

Another thing, do you think Ramin is conscious of what happens in the sequel while he's performing in the original? Do you think that's begun to affect his performance?

I only hope it doesn't involve that automaton face with the mist around it, like in the end of the teaser. That was just creepy. If I saw a poster like that and had no idea what the show was about other than the title, I certainly would NOT want to see it.

Hmmmm... That's a good question. I'd say probably not. He's a very good actor and really gets 'in the moment'. He can switch from screaming to singing pianissimo in a second. He doesn't let what's coming up next affect what he's doing at present, so I don't think Phantom 2 has influenced what he does in Phantom 1. It's still the same character, with the same past and the same personality, in the same show. Just because Ramin knows what happens to the character in the future doesn't change the character in the present.

When I saw the teaser, I thought it was a preview for a horror movie. I was almost expecting Pennywise from "It" to show up LOL. But that's kinda cool. A gothic romantic musical spectacle with a carnival setting. At least the sets and costumes will be awesome.

Also, with the rumours Mme. Giry is likely to be the villain, can you see any part in the original show that would make this character development consistent with what we've already seen? I always liked how she was a mysterious character who knew everything. I didn't like how the film gave too much of her away.

Well, Erik does dress as a clown in Phantom of Manhattan. I reaaaaaaally hope they choose NOT to include that in Love Never Dies.

I'm excited for the performances, sets, costumes, and music, just not the story!!

The only really villainous thing I can see about Mme. Giry (on stage) is that she fears and does not like the Phantom. "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering", I guess?

Though if they do keep the ending of Phantom of Manhattan, I absolutely cannot imagine her doing what Darius, the book villain, does. Updated On: 10/8/09 at 01:00 AM

I'm hearing too many conflicting versions of the story, I don't know WHAT to believe. As far as I'm concerned, the vague summary on the official website (which just looks ghastly at the moment, the whole Twitter thing??) is the only one I believe.

I don't understand why she would turn against Christine. Then again, in the stage show, she was no supporting figure to Christine like in the film. She seemed more like a character mediating between Christine and the Phantom.

I've picked up details from here and there, as well as read Phantom of Manhattan. (AWFUL book.) I could summarize everything I know, but it might contain what people may consider spoilers.

It's not just Mme. Giry. Everyone is out of character. The Phantom seems to have forgotten his redemption at the end of Phantom 1, Raoul is a drunk, Meg is sexy and cold-hearted, etc.

Ramin says he portrays the Phantom as having Aspergers Syndrome, so I wonder how he'll act now that the Phantom 'walks among normal people'.

Yes, I read "The Phantom of Manhattan" when it came out and again last year. Rubbish. The broad idea is quite interesting, however. If you were the Phantom, where would you go if you wanted no one to find you or export you from the country if they did? America? Think of the immigrants who started their lives all over again.

I don't know how many people know this but Gaston Leroux, in his lifetime, attempted to write a sequel but it never happened. Universal Pictures attempted a sequel twice with the Lon Chaney original and the Claude Rains remake. Universal actually completed a film with Susanna Foster called "The Climax" which is what became of the last attempt to create a Phantom sequel.

So the history of trying to continue one of the most romantic dark stories of all time goes back many years...

I really wish Leroux had gotten around to writing the sequel for the Lon Chaney film he was thinking about. It was something about Erik surviving and stalking Christine and Raoul to a Spanish opera house.

Although I suppose it's much easier to write a sequel to ALW than Leroux, since, y'know, Leroux!Erik sort of DIES at the end.

True. But I imagine that would be something Leroux would have been able to solve. This was the man who wrote "The Mystery of the Yellow Room" after all, a seemingly unexplainable mystery taking place inside four-walls without any noticeable entrances or exits. Or something like that!

If Leroux wrote it, it would be brilliant. AND everyone would be in-character.

Of course, and all he would have had to do is say Erik's death was a conspiracy so he could escape and move on? Then again, if it were based on the film, Erik could have simply floated down-stream. I never believed they...you know...for those who haven't seen the silent.

He was too clever for such a lame and angry mob.

I believe there was something about him switching places with one of the mob members and jumping in the river.

Personally, instead of a sequel, I'd rather see a prequel using Kay's Phantom as source material. Now that is a compelling story. I daresay I like it more than Leroux's original novel.

And on a different note, I wonder what the Phantom will wear? Ramin in my avatar made me think of it. He can't just go around wearing an evening suit all the time. It'll be odd to see him without it, though. Do you think they'd dare to change the mask?
