I thought Matt was awful in The Music Man as well!

Manley was HORRIBLE in Rent. Made me want to die. During Goodbye, Love, when Roger and Mark have their little confrontation. "Perhaps it's because I'm the one of us to survive!" and then, Manley ruins the moment with "Poor baybaaaaaaaaaaah." It was so painful. He couldn't act, his voice was all right, but sounded whiny at points...I wanted to kick him.

Dick Van Dyke in the 1980 revival of "The Music Man" - he was drunk the night I saw him. The show closed early.

Robert Morse in Showboat - it was sad. He was finally replaced by John McMartin.

Good lord, MisterMatt, you're so goddammed midwestern literal and earnest. It was a metaphor, obviously one that did not work for you but stop fricking harping on it. "I don't understand what you mean by the word harping, if you mean to play the harp I am not really sure what that has to do with anything. Perhaps you mean carping, but a carp is a fish...." Jesus.

As for the thread topic, when Manley was new, he was a fine, if overly muscular Roger. (And he was never new on Broadway, you had to be there back in Boston, '96.)

Agree w Hasselhoff.
But I am shocked no one has mentioned Melanie Griffiths. Or maybe cos she is in a "special" class all her own?

I CANNOT believe that this thread has made it to 4 pages without mentioning Mickey Dolenz in AIDA.

Atrocious can't even touch it!
Yes that's me. No, it's not a Rent homage.

Reinking was a brilliant Roxie. Not sure how she could be miscast when her performance was an exact replica of Gwen Verdon's who created the role.

Ricky Martin in Les Mis was the worst piece of casting I've ever seen in my life.

I'd also have to say some bad ones were:
Megan Lawrence in Les Mis
Kerry Butler in Little Shop
Deborah Cox in Aida
Tammy Blanchard in Gypsy
Nancy Anderson in Kiss Me Kate
Jennifer Westfeldt in Wonderful Town
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I thought that casting Bernadette as Annie was horrible. It really turned me off to her. (And don't remind me of her Tony.) I had no desire to see her in Gypsy after that but TKTS had a good ticket one afternoon, so I went. I was completely wiped out by that woman's performance. I understand that she had good performances and bad during the run, so I guess I just lucked out by seeing one of the really, REALLY good ones. I thought she was just incredible.

Miscast

I thought Tammy Blanchard was pretty bad in Gypsy. And Bernadette was miscast. If only Patti Lupone had played it. That would have been amazing.

Miscast

Matt_G, oh no you didn't!
BERNADETTE WAS SIMPLY PERFECTION AS MAMA ROSE... I LOVED IT!

But you're entitled to your opinion.

Miscast

Without a doubt, the most miscast person in a Broadway show HAD TO HAVE BEEN:

A) The entire cast of "Bombay Dremas" or
B) Joey Fatone for LSOH
