I was watching the taping of billy Elliot and was wondering if the dancing omelettes in something rotten were a reference to the dancing dresses in expressing yourself. I know something rotten had a lot of references too musicals, but I wasn't sure if that was one of them.
What connection do YOU see between eggs and dresses?
^ This is the hardest I've laughed all day.

Hahaha probably should reword that. The costume design was similar and they both tap danced around. Even though there's nothing related between dresses and eggs, is it a reference?
No.
Yea, I wish more than those two shows would feature tap dancing while in costume. Maybe something with old ladies with walkers?
...... and maybe the dancing dresses in BILLY ELLIOT were a reference to the dancing suits in SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE? Sometimes we overthink things ......

I'm going to assume that everyone on this board has scene both costumes. They're both built similar (can't see the face, full body costumes, inanimate objects), and they both tap dance. The song that has the eggs, something rotten/make an omelette, is full of refrences to other musicals. If it's not, just say no, don't be a jerk about it. We're all here because we love theatre.
I don't think it was a direct reference to Billy Elliot, but it was a reference to an often used device. Dames at Sea has dancing dollar signs. The use of inanimate objects tap dancing is used in lots of entertainment productions.

Ok, thank you for explaining it to me. The dancing dollar signs in dames at sea sounds hilarious!
