Is Billy Elliott appropriate for an 8 year old girl?

The only thing I could see being inappropriate, depending on your beliefs or rules, would be the amount of profanities spoken throughout the show.

Other than that, I don't see why she - and you - wouldn't love it!

If she's approved for some foul language, I don't see why not. It will probably go completely over her head, but the dancing is spectacular.

She may get a little restless...it's a darker musical with flashes of big, flash numbers but a lot of it (particularly the second act) is dark and probably too complicated for her.

It all depends on her maturity level, to be honest.

there were college students sitting by me who were confused by a lot of the political aspects of the plot (clearly they hadn't read the background sketch given in the Playbill), so it really does just depend on her maturity level.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

If you would allow her to watch the film, then most definitely.

I saw the film at about that age, and it was my favorite for along time. It all depends on the maturity level.

I'm a parent of an 8 year old and I think WAY too much of it would go over his head, and he's REALLY bright.

BUT...perhaps if a movie viewing is possible you could gauge her responses, understanding and interest from that. Hmm...might try that with my son.

ALSO....the accents can be hard to follow for younger kids.
