So according to broadway.com and theatre.com London has just introduced the first Black Billy Elliot: Layton Williams.
I'm excited. I'm sure this is going to cause a bit of uproar considering the huge ongoing debate about Color-blind casting that pops up every now and then on the boards.
Go Latoyn Williams. I'm rooting for you.
Pictures and article
I don't mind considering Billy Elliot isn't a race specific role. GO LAYTON! I don't really like the show at all but congrats.
I saw an Asian Billy (Matthew Koon, I think) and he was just fine. Like anything else, if you have a problem with it, you probably won't get over it by anyone trying to convince you otherwise around here.
shouldn't they change the kid on the logo then? just an idea...
He's one of 3 or 4 other Billy's. He's not the only one. And there are other logos that feature cast members no longer in the show...Mamma Mia comes to mind.
The MAMMA MIA logo isn't of any specific cast member.
Ok...but I'm not sure that matters. Either way, the person on the poster isn't who you're going to see in the show.
And the entire Broadway run (and tour) of My Fair Lady used the Hirschfeld drawings of Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews.
