Did anyone catch "Black Broadway: a Proud History and Limited Future" on PBS this week?
Nikki Renee Daniels sang Being Alive. It was a glimpse into her Bobbi. So good. But the best of all, was Nova Payton singing " And I'm Telling You". I was blown away. It was the best performance of that song since Jennifer Holliday on the Tony's. Do yourself a favour and check it out. They should be building a revival around her.

Had no clue this was on. Right now you can only see the full program via PBS Passport it seems. They have "Sneak Peeks" on their YouTube channel. Saw most of her "And I am Telling You". Her "I'm Here" from The Color Purple was KILLER! The whole performance is in one of the sneak peeks at the end.

Thanks! I did a search for it on my TV and all I got was the YouTube clips. I should have just searched 2 days through my screen guide. Just set it to record!

I enjoyed the concert for the great black performers it showcased (Nova Payton was stunning), but was really bothered that so few black composers/lyricists were featured. Practically every song was written by white creators, which isn't a bad thing, but in a show called Black Broadway, I thought they'd reach a little deeper.
