Posted: 5/30/05 at 11:44amFoxy Brown...Sheba Baby! ,or Coffy (or a combo of all three as they are essentially the same story). Now for something extra inspiring...how about re-working Ibsens "Dollhouse" into one of my fave Pam Grier movies (The Big dollhouse---one of those women in prison pics) - you can call it "The really big doll house" ...A serious piece with lots of rip-away bra action :)

Golly, ratkitty, no "Black Mama, White Mama"?
Does anybody know how much ON GOLDEN POND is drawing African-American audiences?

"Lean On Me" would be great. Songs could be "Mr. Clark Don't Play", "You Smoke Crack, Don't You?", and "Stand There and Listen."
What happened to the talk of bringing "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" to broadway?
Ordinaryjukebox, stop trying to thread jack with this tired and over debated subject. And as for whites taking on roles that are not supposed to be for whites, this list is very long.

Jaded, think about this:
Pootie Tang: The Musical
Score by Bootsy Collins and Wyclef Jean

"give me a break with this thread...isn't it enough they're doing "on golden pond" and "his girl friday" with an all black cast, and they made "the honeymooners" into a "black" film? i'll say it again, where's the all white cast of "rasin in the sun" and "the piano lesson" and i think kristin chenoweth and michael crawford for "porgy and bess"...no?

Vincent are you a complete and totally racist moron or do you just post like one? This thread is NOT about turning white plays and/or musicals into all black productions. It's about turning already existing all black motion pictures into stage productions. You need to focus and read what's written before going off on an uncalled for flame like that.
Now...enough with YOU and take some reading comprehension classes.

Some that might work if done right:
Foxy Brown - Some funky R&B songs and a few power ballads might make this a lot of fun actually.
Anna Lucasta
Sounder
Why Do Fools Falls in Love?
Eve's Bayou
Life
He Got Game
She's Gotta Have It
Boys in the Hood
Higher Learning
Barbershop
Color Purple
Amistad
Jason's Lyric
Monster's Ball
Some that would most likely be disasters, but that are a trip to imagine:
Cool Runnings
BAPS
White Chicks
Good Burger
CB4
Malcolm X
Booty Call
How to Be a Player
Love Jones
Sprung
Vampire in Brooklyn
Bad Boys
Big Momma's House
Ali
Jackie Brown
Have any of these been done as musicals already?

I got served? What the hell does that mean? Actually, I find it more racist when I read, "Yeah, it's time for a BLACK Elphaba," and other such stupid comments. I will not justify accusations that are insane, I will simply say that I stated my point, and I'm over it...

Hmm, it's not necessarily a "black" movie, but I'd like to see Sister Act on the stage. I loved that movie.

I'm very much looking forward to "The Color Purple," but probably because I'm a "racist." I also loved "Caroline, or Change" and I love Audra McDonald...damn it, now I'm feeding into this accusation...

A Patch of Blue might be good too.
It was the catchprase and title of a terrible "dance-off" movie from last year, jukebox.

Aww, I always adored "B.A.P.S."!! Just think of the exciting numbers from this one:
"Soul Food Sista'!"
"Gold Tooth Gals"
"To Da' Bat Cave, Alfred!"
and, my personal favorite ...
"BOO-YOW!!!"
Hmmm ... interesting ...

And how about the ever-popular "BOOTY CALL"?
"You've got to lick it, before you stick it, got to get it soaking wet before you kick it!"
Real class.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 9:31amMy first thought was School Daze, though I hated the ending. Perhaps if the ending were in song, it would work better. Great film, though. Would make an excellent stage production with the right team.

I like the B.A.P.s idea. "Diary of a Mad Black Woman?"
"The Preacher's Wife" (with more broadway-like songs added). I like that part where Denzel tries to dance. People don't realize this, but Denzel is basically nothing but a glorified nerd.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 3:41pmI'll second EVE'S BAYOU and WAITING TO EXHALE! Two of my favourite films. For anyone who has never seen EVE'S BAYOU go out and get it immediately! Debbi Morgan should have been nominated for an Oscar. I love the scene where she describes her past loves through the mirror. Brilliant!
