Now now jordan, don't be that way, there are other women that could do it justice.
For you maybe. Not for me.
Why is it ok for people to pitch fits at the very idea that Patti the 'Great' might miss a show, people to say she IS the only conceivable Rose, but it's not ok for people to feel that way about other actresses and roles???
No, seriously. I'm wondering. No one questions the devotion to her and that role (or they're ridiculed and worse for daring to suggest that they might be interested in a different interpretation), but whenever that kind of devotion is shown to any other actress/role it's ignored and pooh-poohed. People are allowed to like and be devoterd to different people.
I bet Chance lives in the Bronx and tells everyone it's the Upper West Side.

Some people don't think it's ok for anyone. What happens in 20 years when the show is revived and they're too old? Your perception of the show is so narrow-minded, you won't see it out of spite?
20 years and too old is a totally different thing than current. It's apples and oranges.
But for this one, no. I won't see it without Alice. That's my prerogative. It's yours or anyone else's to see it with anyone else if you choose. I don't berate your decision, why is it ok for you to berate mine? I simply said for ME it's only her.
Jordan, you can choose to see or not see any show you want, and you don't have to justify it to anyone. (Chance said there are only 3 actresses he would travel to DC to see in N2N, so don't listen to him.)
I saw Cherry Jones in Doubt 3 times and have decided that as much as I love the play, I really do not care to see anyone else's interpretation of Sister Aloysius.
Do what you want to do and don't worry what anyone else thinks of your decision. It's your life, not theirs!
Thanks Miss Pennywise. :)
I should probably be more specific. IF someone else was in it and got great word of mouth from people I trust and good reviews, AND the show transferred to NYC, I would probably consider seeing it. However, I'm not traveling to DC to see it if Alice isn't in it.

and no skittles i don't live in the bronx, and i don't tell people i live on th upper west side. i tell people i live where i live.
Jordan, I loved, loved, loved N2N at Second Stage, and I have been a devoted Alice Ripley fan since I saw her way back when in Tommy. If the production at Arena doesn't measure up to what I saw in NYC last March, you'll be the first to know!
i had been reading posts on this site for a while and never joined because the cattiness was OUT OF HAND! finally, after having read a lot of decent and interesting conversations, i decided to join and not 10 minutes later do i read this thread (bc i was a huge fan of N2N) and endure this nonsense again. GROW UP PEOPLE! why would you want to present yourself like an immature child who has nothing better to do than waste space on this site. also, once the arguments start, i understand that people want to stand up for their "friends" but it just adds fuel to the fire. can we let it go now and talk about N2N?

Thanks Miss Pennywise! You're one of those whose opinions I trust. :) Will be looking forward to it.
(Also, off topic here, but... I will give my thoughts on Ace after I see it on Labor Day weekend. When we were talking the other night and I said I was planing a couple of long weekends down to see it, Emily told me I should definitely see it cause it's good and fun, so I'm looking forward to that one.)
And back on topic...I did go see Jersey Boys last night standing room (got to sit for most of the second act thanks to a really nice usher) to check out Spencer and, while iffy during Act 1 just because he's so much back-up there, was completely sold and won over by Act 2. :) He'll be awesome. He said at the stage door that he's really excited about it.
I should plan on seeing Ace too. Everyone has been talking about it.
IMO, you haven't seen or heard "Not Getting Married Today" from Company until you've seen Alice do it. I was in the third row for the Kennedy Center production...she stopped the show. Amazing!
Good news about Bobby Spencer, Jordan. I also think that Brian D'Arcy James can do no wrong, so I'm happy to get your positive feedback about Bobby.
I'm gonna see it Labor Day weekend and then again on its closing weekend (barring extension). Very excited!
Oh God, I would have loved to have seen that. I've heard it from an audio, and can only imagine what it looked like in person. Lucky!!

Agreed, especially when she just stood there with the rubber glove in her mouth, gazing vacantly at the audience. I thought I was going to be sick I was laughing so hard.
On Next to Normal... I'm getting premature grey hair waiting to see a cast list for this. Tickets go onsale tomorrow, I'd like if they ponied up an announcement with the release of the tickets....
I wonder if giving the box office a call would help. I used to know someone who worked there; she would have told me. Dammit!
Well, I was really confused, because I thought "what is Nurse Bobbi Spencer doing joining the cast of Next to Normal?"
Carry on.
Oh, You, I love Jackie Zeman, but, no, this is a guy.
Everyone on this thread has probably called Arena already, but I did it too, just for the heck of it. About 5 minutes ago.
They said they don't know if Alice or Aaron will be in the show nor when their involvement will be announced. But they assured me that as soon they know, I'll know! (LOL!)
I considered calling them today and then figured the box office people probably didn't know...
I wish somebody did.
I will say this: Box Office people down here at places like the Arena Stage often do know such things (not that they're at liberty to tell you!)
I guess it's time for me to get into "patience" and "acceptance" mode, huh?
I just called and the nice person at the box office told me that the cast would be announced "in the next couple of weeks".
WHAT?! Argh.
Let's make a pact. As soon as anyone finds out, POST IT immediately! Okay?
Sounds like a plan! :)

I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of Alice after I saw N2N. I wasn't sure how I felt about the show, but I found some audio of the show from the Fringe festival, and the girl playing Diana wasn't so unemotional and just dead to me. It's the girl from Wedding Singer, and her name is totally escaping me right now, but it made me realize how much Alice Ripley brought to the role, so now I have to agree that she is great in the part. I may not care for her vocal sometimes, but she's great. But I hate the song she sings about the mountains. I hope they change that.
i think you are referring to amy spanger from wedding singer. i thought alice was amazing in N2N but i must admit that the mountain song wasn't my favorite either.

yeah cause they're really gonna cut the best song in the show and the deepest insight we really get into the mind of Diana.
how do you make the roll eyes emoticon?
