I, of course, do not believe you're a terrible person for holding this opinion. I don't even completely disagree...though I think there's more there than you do.
I'm just saying that sometimes (ok...a lot of times), the tone you use to express your opinions can be off-putting. And, of course, I'm only responding to the BroadwayWorld version of you...clearly not the real time version.
For example, there have been times I've wanted to reach through my screen and throttle Pal Joey. But in real life, I adore the man would let him fondle me in the back of a cab if I'd had enough Ketel Ones*.
*For future reference to one and all, a half of a Ketel One on the rocks is all it takes to get me in a fondle-able mood. Just don't forget the lime.
Noted and appreciated (evaluations about me, that is, not what you and Joey do in a vodka-soaked cab).

It takes generally 7-10 years from first idea, to writing, to development, to raising funds, to developing it more so the new funders feel confident it, and then mounting a prod. If there's a try-out, it goes back to the development mode, but which phase of development is the real question.
In this case, it seems like there's interest from different producers, like Roundabout and now Old Globe. But like I said, this is a tricky commericial prospect in any sense, so I imagine they want to hedge their bets and be confident in it before it's Bway-bound.
Also, to be fair, it's probably coming up on its 10 years soon, if it hasn't already.

I don't really see Santino Fontana as a good match for Mitch, at least physically. He doesn't have the "Hollywood" look that Ivan Hernandez has.
I also thought Hernandez was a terrific leading man. They're more difficult to find, I think, than many realize.
It'll be interesting to see what Fontana can do with this. I think he's a terrific actor with a wide range (his brother in Billy Elliot had a wonderful, seething edge while his Algy was delightfully foppish). But he does strike me in some ways as a little too similar to Steggert (slight, quirky). Hernandez was not only terrific, but he was strapping and masculine in a very traditional way that I think worked for the part.
Listening to the music on the show's site, I just find it all really boring and unexciting.

But we've done that already. Don't you remember?
It was in Jejune of last year.

Yank stank; big time. Utterly pedestrian writing....
I saw the spring reading directed by Cromer.
All I will say is - it is a very different, leaner, stronger show than what was onstage at the York. Several new characters, much stronger character development of Mitch and Artie, several new songs.
