So Jeremy Jordan was the lead for both newsies and b&c. If Bonnie and Clyde ran longer would newsies ever be a bway show? Or would they have recast Jack kelly?

Jordan wouldn't be a Tony and a Grammy nominee. He might've gotten a Tony nom for Bonnie and Clyde, but he deserved it more for Newsies. He got two drama league noms that year though.

Alright Mr. I-Joined-Two-Days-Ago let's cool it on the sass. OP honestly might not've known how that situation works.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Had he been nominated for Bonnie and Clyde instead of Newsies, I think he could've had a shot that year. His performance as Clyde far surpassed his best as Jack Kelly.

Ok, then why was he nominated for Newsies and not Bonnie and Clyde? It's not an issue of staying open long enough, Laura got a nom for B&C...

Because Newsies was currently running with Jordan as the star. It's called politics.
Additionally, Newsies was up for Best Musical that year.

There was a rumor at the time that Disney paid off the Bonnie and Clyde producers to close so Jeremy Jordan would be available for Newsies.

Didn't Corey Cott initially audition to be the originating Jack Kelly since they weren't sure Jeremy could do it - and then was brought back in when Jeremy needed an alternate? I'm not sure where I read that, but I will start looking...
Update: I could have SWORN I read it somewhere (I remember being surprised). The story was from the perspective of Ben and Corey was texting him. The search continues. (Of course, I could have been hallucinating)

Yep, the flop that earned terrible to lackluster reviews only closed because Disney paid them off. I thought it closed because it was terrible - and not even terrible in a good way. It was just boring.

Nobody with even the slightest bit of common sense believed that rumor. During Christmas week of 2011, a week before the show closed, they were playing to 52.8% capacity and made a whopping $248,221. The only musical to gross less that week was Lysistra Jones (even Godspell made more than them). Nobody had to pay off anybody to get that show to close early.
