If you do SRO and get the opportunity, request spot numbers 108 or 109. That's where I was, and it was literally dead center (I was in line with the conductor). They tried to put me extreme side at first, but I asked for more center, and they gave it to me.
I think I had 110.

If I want to do the lotto, what time should I get there? I know it says 2.5 hours early, but I didn't know if I should arrive there earlier just in case?
The day I was there the lotto seemed to go pretty smoothly. There were people handing out the cards to fill out, even to the SRO line, and you could easily go up to the stand and grab one, as a few of us did since we missed the ones being handed out. The crowd started gathering about a half hour before they came out of the theater to do the lotto. Maybe an hour but I wasn't looking at the time.
I just logged onto telecharge.com, and 2 seats came up for tonight in the back Orchestra.
Did SRO tickets for tonight's show. I got there at 1:30, was 6th in line, and by 2:15 the 28 tickets had pretty much been spoken for. However, I've tried the lotto at least 10 times and it seems like there's always at least one person that wins lotto from the sr line. So you never know.
As for the show. Entertaining? Yes. Irreverent? Of course. Overhyped? Most definitely. I wish I saw it before all the hype. It was fun to see Hugh Jackman and wife, Nicole Kidman, and Keith Urban there....all sitting together. They seemed to really enjoy it.
It's not completely sold out. There are several single seats available for most shows. I can't buy my ticket for July till Tuesday, but I've been checking availability every day.
I bought a back Mezz ticket back when it was still in previews, and I have to say that I don't get the hype. I mean, I think it's a great show. But to be THIS big of a hit? I'm surprised. I guess to each their own. I'm glad an original musical is getting all this success, but I guess I wish a show like "Brief Encounter" (which I loved and saw multiple times) had undergone this much success. I think that was a more artistically daring show. But whatever, glad it's doing well. Just makes the Tonys not as fun!
^ how's the view from the back of the mezz?
View from the back of the Mezz is great. I sat there also early during previews. I was in Row J all the way to the right side (on the wall). One of the worst seats you could have in the theater and I still felt connected to the show and saw anything. A great seat.
Since I'm here, I'll also repost my question from earlier in the thread: anyone know (or could guess) when people line up for SRO for the Sunday matinee?
I have no clue whatsoever how my mom and I managed to score tickets two days before we saw the show.
I've never been so addicted to a single show! My total song collective on my iPod is over 7000 because I just don't stop listening to it!! I would do so much in this world to go back to NY and see it again. I absolutely LOVED Andrew Rannells <3

Does anyone know when the cancellation line starts forming?
I tried searching and came up with nothing.
I think the answer to both of your questions is: Early.
I tried the lotto all weekend with friends, and people were lined up for the standing room seats long before the lotto had started.
We have friends from Tokyo coming to stay with us and want to see a Broadway show - The Book Of Mormom of course. The day we picked to go is Aug 17 and this morning I spent some time trying to make tickets show up on ticket master and they week came up as sold out.
This thread is perfect timing, now I have all this great I fo on the SRO. Maybe we *can* get into the show on the 17th :)) yeah.
I agree with the poster who said no show is worth the 800. No friggin way. My limit is up to 90.
I would pay that price for a seat, coming from Australia I would rather have a confirmed seat than try my luck with SRO.
The thing I find interesting is Opera companies have been charging these type of prices for years, the ring cycle in San Fran a fee years ago was over 1500 for the four operas!
I'm just glad I bought our tickets for next month about three months ago. We were willing to shill out some money for this show, but definitely not premium ticket prices. ~$100 or so was more than enough, and even that was a hard pill to swallow.
Saw the show tonight by SRO...so funny!!! Loved it!
But anyways...SRO didn't seem toooo bad today. Tried matinee lotto--didn't win of course! But probably could have done SRO for that show if we had been smart and got in standing room line right when we got there for lotto at 11:30. Cause we did get in line for a brief second after we lost the lotto and were people number 29 and 30. We knew we wouldn't get it being those numbers so we left but a lot of people jumped in the SRO line right after the lotto too and a think some of them probably got tickets. Although the first people in line got there at 6am!!! :0 CRAZY!!!
Anyways we came back at 3:40 for the evening SRO line. We were 15 and 16 in line. So that was no problem. We probably could have gotten there as late as 5:00 and still got tickets.
I just went back 10 years in Grosses and noted it took just over a year for the Producers to dip.
With a healthy box office every week and great advance sales, which I guess will go upto Christmas, do you think the show has recouped already?
On projected sales I guess this show is going to make so much money, that's why the show producers are advancing with great haste the tour and West End transfer.
Can you count your advance sales toward your recoupment? For some reason, I thought not. I'm trying to remember how long it took "The Producers" and "Hairspray" to announce recoupment. I would imagine it will be around the same time as they did.

I don't believe that advance sales do count towards recoupment because should something happen and you close early then that money is returned to the ticket purchaser. So it is not actually counted in your books as official until the performance takes place and the money can not be refunded.
This is all by my own reasoning and based partially on what I know having worked a couple of commercial productions Off-Broadway. If somebody with more knowledge of the business end knows more please feel free to correct me.
You're right, AEA. When a ticket is purchased, Telecharge (or Ticketmaster) holds that money in escrow. Once the performance takes place, all the money for every ticket sold for that date is transferred to the production. So even though Book of Mormon may have a large advance, they don't get to do anything with it until they hold up their end of the bargain (putting on the show).
I got a pretty good ticket some time ago for an orchestra seat at the end of June. If they're going for those kinds of prices, I'd be MORE than happy to sell it though. It would pay for my trip to NY!
Even though telecharge hold on to the money, which incidentally I didn't know, I guess if the tickets are selling very well, they will go to the producers and ask for more tickets, this in itself will be a good indication how well the show is doing.
Somehow I won tonight's lottery for the show. Last time I saw this was from row G of mezzanine the day before it opened. Loved the view from up there and LOVED the view from front row. Stage is low and orchestra pit is between stage and 1st row. So even if you are a bit short there should be no problem. And the leg room is great (these seats are very close tho).
Talked to a few SRO people. They said 1st one on line got there around 2 this afternoon. I might try that next time.
I am going to New York the first week of August. I was originally planning to go the alst week of July, but Book of Mormon was sold out. Yesterday I looked online and they had a seat for Friday night. I went online to buy it today and it gone, and the whole week is sold out. I am going to keep checking telecharge. Do tickets sometimes open up? Also do people sell tickets outside the theatre? I know there have been scalping problems with the tickets, but if they do sell legitimate tickets how much are they usually for. I am so bummed this is sold out, and I really hope I can somehow get a ticket. This was my must see show! Any advice is greatly appreciated.
