Book of Mormon in Vogue

Yup, you read that right. Also, we get a neat little synopsis.

The plot focuses on a missionary odd couple—Elder Price (Andrew Rannells), a golden boy with a sense of destiny, and Elder Cunningham (Josh Gad), a tubby loser with a desperate need to be liked—who are sent to Uganda, where they quickly discover that, as one of them puts it, “Africa is nothing like The Lion King.” “You’ve got these little nineteen-year-old white boys from Utah with their attitude of ‘We know how the world works,’ ” says Stone. “Then they get sent to a place filled with poverty and starvation and AIDS and all sorts of superbad ****, and suddenly none of what they’ve learned is of any use at all.”

Personally, the synopsis alone makes me crack up on the basis that several of my good friends from high school went on their 'Mission' to Africa upon graduation and had similar revelations.

Cannot. Wait.

Probably the thing I'm most excited about this season. I can't wait. Exactly the sort of thing Broadway needs right now.

There is a joke embedded in the subject line if one reads it as a (nearly) complete sentence.

It is always in vogue with Mormons one would assume.

I'm laughing just reading about the show. I can't wait till I actually see it.

Should be Book of Mormon is Vague. I seriously knew more about Spider-Man than I do about this show. Nevertheless, I am very excited.

Here's hoping it can live up to expectations. Musicals opening cold on Broadway haven't had good press thus far this season.

"Should be Book of Mormon is Vague. I seriously knew more about Spider-Man than I do about this show. Nevertheless, I am very excited."

I actually think that's a smart move in today's today and age. We usually know everything about a musical when it opens in NYC. We've got reviews and word of mouth and a demo and an audio and etc. etc. People already hate or like something before it opens. I think it's oddly refreshing that something is opening, and all we have is an in-a-nutshell synopsis.

I do know that most of their dance calls have included tap. I can't wait for some tap dancing Mormons!

Also, they have been heavily pushing ticket sales to their South Park fan-base, the majority of which I'm guessing is a demographic fairly largely ignored by other musicals' marketing teams.

Exactly- instead of a famous book or movie to base the show on, they have a well known pair of extremely talented writers to sell the tickets. I think this will fill the audience gap created when Avenue Q 'left.' People shouldn't be asking who the audience is to this show, because the answer is that it's the same people who spurred Avenue Q (and maybe even Spamalot to some extent) to run for the extended period of time it did.

And while it is cold opening on Broadway, it's been performed privately for potential backers, etc. several times, and we've heard great things from that. It's great to see a show open clean like this with so little drama. (behind the scenes!) Personally, the only thing I see wrong with the show so far is the slogan! Instead of 'God's favorite musical, I'd rather have, 'God's chosen musical.' heheh

Anyway, I am completely rooting for this show, and think it could do well at the Tonys this year and take score and maybe even Best Musical from Catch Me (which is a little sloppy last we saw) or Priscilla. Also, Trey Parker is from a few towns over from where I was born, so it's always been nice to see him succeed. Book of Mormon in Vogue

Oh c'mon, Parker and Stone are going to use every weapon in their arsenal to make this a distinguished work. They are going to knock it out and it will stun, I wholeheartedly believe in their skills and instincts as performance writers.

I have always loved that Trey drags Matt to Les Miz ever year.

haha- I had never heard that!

It's fantastic to see these two guys have worked together since they were in college and have always managed such quality products. Let's hope there's never a falling out between them- I think we'd be at a great loss for comedic talent!

Off to re-watch their brilliant Cannibal: The Musical now!
