re: Books or movies that would make great musicals.

In the Bible Jesus is requested to make wine at a wedding in Cana. I've always wished someone would make a musical about this wedding, and the circumstances around it. Something lighthearted.

There was a French pop-music spectacle of The Little Prince a la Notre Dame de Paris as well as an opera. I just don't think it's a story that works well as a musical.

Princess Bride musical=amazingness. its kind of weird that it hasnt become one yet.

the movie Anastasia would be a really good musical.

of course, my dream come true would be Fight Club. The Musical. seriously, how cool would that be?

Three Men in a Boat

With Hugh Jackman as Jerome K Jerome perhaps?
Oliver Platt as George?
David Hyde Pierce as Harris?

and what about Montmorency?

About previous posts:
Princess Bride would be AWESOMe. Love that movie...very good musical potential.
MULAN! I love this movie to death....I was saying to my friend a few weeks ago that we had to adapt it for the stage :)
Harry potter--i'm a big fan but that would suck. the end.

Ideas:

There is t his book series called Among the Hidden, Among the Betrayed, etc, which is very interesting. The premise ist hat in the future, families are limited to 2 children, and any 3rd child born is taken away from the family and killed or arrested (don't recall). The story is about one boy who is the 3rd child who has never been allowed to leave the house and how he discovers that there are a lot of other 3rd children too...I think it would make for a really interesting play. NOt musical but a play.

Another idea: I AM SAM! I think it could have Beatles songs and original songs...I love I am Sam.

That is all I can think of at the moment

Hmmn..I think that Among The Hidden series might make a nice musical, actually. I mean, for losers like me (currently listening to A Quiet Night at Home, from BARE) that recording would have amazingly introspective songs. I think it would make the perfect melancholy musical. Oh, and I LOVE THE PRINCESS BRIDE TO DEATH. The first time I read the book I didn't even realize it wasn't an abridged version...but I was ten. I looked for the unabriged version, and then felt dumb.

I totally agree with Anastasia. Mulan...I'm not so sure about, but it might work.

Actually, the first kind of books that just popped into my head were those sort of...teen boppy books.
i.e. Angus, Thongs, Full Frontal Snogging...The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things.

I don't know why. It'd be incredibly difficult to adapt (I particularly like the second book better)

Maybe it wasn't right to say teen boppy. I'm still pretty young, so I shouldn't stereotype things like that. Schorry :)

  1. I purposely went on to this thread first before checking out some newer ones. I think it’s so cool to see how some of this really old comments have aged. Seeing the one about Lestat is kinda funny now seeing how much of a flop it would be, but it’s cool to see the ones that have turned out quite well, like First Wives ClubMatildaHarry PotterAnastasia, etc.

I’ve finished RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE by Casey McQuiston. It’s a gay love story where the First Son of the United States falls in love with a Prince of the United Kingdom. Does it sound trashy? Yes, it is super trashy but also incredibly endearing and would make a brilliant musical.

I think Disney should dust off Mr. Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy.  Would make for a great family musical.  The stories (though obscure) have everything.  Special effects, comedy, unrequited love story, horror, and family appeal.  They could go any direction with it they they want. Plus if it went well, we could get a remake, and that makes my nostalgic heart happy. :)
