Bootleg

This is a legitimate question.

As posters in the message board we are discouraged from posting links to bootleg videos, but how come Broadwayworld is allowed to post bootleg videos.

Example: The video roundup of Mamie Parris.

If you say Alan Henry's name three times, he might appear. Or this thread will disappear. Who knows?

Just remember. Bootlegs are illegal and bad EXCEPT if you post it online and someone in the video reposts it on their social media account. Then it's cool.

It's their website, they can do whatever they want.



The only problem is: its hardly an original concern. (Or an interesting one.)

That video roundup of Mamie Parris was posted by "BWW News Desk" so I'm going to assume that means their intern, who may have just gotten excited or made a mistake.

I don't think BWW is hugely worried about posting them, other than accidentally promoting the filming of shows, because reposting a link to a video uploaded elsewhere online isn't illegal. Still, weird for them to do.

Equity has given up on a lot of things for a lot of years, but in the case of bootleg recordings, it's not just Equity's problem.
