Hi all, how are box office ticket purchases working these days? With Covid safety and digital vaccination cards, if you purchase in person, are you given a physical ticket for the performance?

I thought I read that some issue the ticket directly to the mobile app.

I can't speak for Broadway but my Encores tickets were in person. Also my dying phone doesn't really get any new apps so I would have to insist on either physical ticket or having it sent as jpeg or similar.

A local theatre offered $6 for a box office pick up which I thought was crazy so u opted for the mobile ticket in the app.

When I bought tickets for Phantom of the Opera at the box office they told me I'd get an email with my tickets and it came about a week later.

I just finished a 5-show weekend in the city:
It might not be the default delivery method when purchasing in-person, but you can still request a physical ticket at the box office.

Not everywhere will give you a physical ticket. I just got To Kill a Mockingbird tickets and he said they would only print physical tickets on the day of show.
Hadestown made me scan a qr code and link the tickets to my seatgeek account which was very annoying. The whole process added far more time than if they'd just printed the tickets!
Six and Tina gave me the option to print tickets.

dave1606 - agreed that the Hadestown process was quite frustrating. It took way more time to go through their rigmarole than to print out a physical ticket.
I never got emailed tix for DANA H so I asked at the box office before the show for tickets and you would have thought I asked her to run a marathon in heels, the attitude and condescending way I was treated. With people in line in back of me, making me stand there going through emails I’d already gone through, telling me I had to stand there and CALL TELECHARGE and making me feel like I’m holding up the line of people when all she had to do was push a few buttons and print the damn tickets out. I left town the next day and completely forgot to issue a complaint about her with the theater but that was acceptable.

So let me understand:
When you purchase tickets at the box office you have to provide your name and e-mail address, right?
Okay, I have an ethnic last name and a longish e-mail address. I guess it's time to have business cards printed up and I can present them at the box office.

Was in the city this past weekend and bought Waitress tickets Saturday morning at their box office. They issued paper tickets.

Most box offices have the option of getting physical tickets if you are getting same day tickets or tickets for a show within the next two weeks. If they only offer e-tix, i HIGHLY recommend writing down your email and giving it to them. Having the BO look up your order and resend e-tix is such a hassle!
Also, if you are getting e-tix, I also recommend asking for a printed receipt of your order in case the email address is entered incorrectly. Some Shubert houses like the Schoenfeld don't offer print receipts, so definitely as for the order number in case you have any future e-tix issues.
Hope this helps!

When I bought tickets in person, the staff member had me verify that I received the email they sent before leaving, just in case the email was spelled wrong. I did pull up my contact info on my phone and handed it to him so he could copy my email address.
