Hugh Jackman could work.
but Clooney and Pitt? nope. neither should get it. no way, no how.
Pitt or Clooney? What a laugh!!
However...what about Alan Rickman? Yes, he's 62, but he looks (and can be made up to look) a good deal younger, and Harrison was 55 when the film was made, and that's how most people see Higgins - as a man in his 50's, not the 40-ish that Shaw says he is. Or if not Rickman, what about Daniel Day-Lewis?
And who/what will they look at for Pickering?
Henry Higgins should be Ralph Fiennes and Julie Andrews as Higgins' mother! A nice way to get her into MFL at last.
Maggie Smith can be the housekeeper.

I assume if Keira Knightly is attached, they are going for a big screen remake?
I read reports that the script will be based on both "Pygmalion" and "My Fair Lady," with the blessing of the Lerner estate, and that they are going for some sort of gritty London realism missing from the studio-set original film.
I love Clooney's sense of humor!

How most people wrongly see Higgins should be irrelevant! That only comes from the silliness of not being able to see beyond the existence of a film! I think Alan Rickman is wonderful, and yes, I think he could have been a possible Higgins twenty years ago, but he's far too old now.
I really hope that they stick to the originally delared intention not just to be true to Lerner and Loewe but to go back to Shaw more as well. In which case Higgins should indeed be much younger than Rex Harrison. But forget the Colin Firths and the Hugh Jackmans (he's not even English!), because that really is completely misunderstanding what it's about. I could actually see Ralph Fiennes doing it though, although unlikely to do another film with Keira Knightley so soon after "The Duchess".
And when they first talked about going back to Shaw for additional material, I did wonder if they would actually really go with Shaw and have Eliza be shown to marry Freddy at the end. But I don't suppose they will. Cam Mac hasn't ever taken that route on a revival, so I don't suppose the film will be different. It would really get the gripes going though, and that would be fun. Lol!
But as could be either Pickering or Doolittle, I would bet Bill Nighy will be in there somewhere.
Can we have both and have a scene where they must be in their boxers and wrestle?
Only if we can have a scene where the Pankhursts duct-tape Higgins to a chair and slice his ear off. ^_^
Much as I am against this film and everything it stands for, I must admit that the idea of Colin Firth as Higgins seems . . . rather appealing . . .
Also, Ewan McGregor would have been a phenomenal Freddy circa 2000, 2001.
Someone please stop me.

Hugh Jackman - too pretty and young.
Hugh Grant - ehhh
HUGH LAURIE - PERFECT!!!
Ohhh, I looove Hugh Laurie. :3 But if this would take time away from 'House', then I would consider it a terrible idea. 'House' makes me happy. :3

Hugh does English aristocrat well ( Kate and Leopold, The Prestige, and Scoop)! Btw, his parents were English immigrants to Australia, Hugh spent his gap year teaching drama in England, and his Mum resides in England.
As for being "too pretty" -- check out some of the publicity photos for his new movie, Luhrmann's AUSTRALIA. He plays a rough-hewn cattle drover ( facial hair and all) who gives 1930's English aristcrat Nicole Kidman a bad time initially, in the tradition of Humphrey Bogart's African Queen role.
He has worked with Cameron Mackintosh before ( OKLAHOMA!) - I wonder if he is being considered for the role?

Jeremy Irons? He's older, but I'm in the 'Meh, whatevs' department there. I've seen clips of him singing the songs and he's hells good.
I say Prierce Bronson! LOL
While the idea of Hugh Laurie as Higgens is absolutely intriguing I don't think it'll happen. If he couldn't get away from House long enough to be in "Superman Returns" I doubt he could get away for "My Fair Lady". In "Superman Returns" he would have only been in a handful of scenes but in "My Fair Lady" Higgens is in more than 50% of the film.
"But as could be either Pickering or Doolittle, I would bet Bill Nighy will be in there somewhere."
I can see Bill Nighy as Higgens. I really enjoyed his work in "I Capture the Castle".
Hugh Laurie was the person that immediately popped in my head. And I think he could either be Higgins or Doolittle. He'd be wonderful either way.
