They went from Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga to the likes of Wayne Brady?

Weird.

The ages in this cast really don't match up well. Wayne Brady is in his late thirties while Vanessa Hudgens and Aaron Tveit are in their early twenties. I also think Tveit as Mark would have made more sense.

I am a lot less excited now...

This is a good THEATRE cast, but I was expecting a Hollywood cast. Near no one in LA know who these people are. And REALLY Telly Leung?

This is entirely too bizarre! Gwen Stewart and Tracie Thoms need to step back, bear in mind their honorable histories in rent, and let this mash-up of crazy characters put on a ridiculous show without them. Wayne Brady as a friend of Skylar Astin and Vanessa H.? Just so unrealistic. And Aaron is not Roger, definitely not.

I just think it is kind of a shame that almost every time a new production of the show is performed or they bring in a new cast or whatever - a few RENT regulars appear. Is it impossible to do this show with people who are completely new to the material?

Wayne Brady is a bit of a head-scratcher but I'd love to see Tveit as Roger...I do see him as more of a Mark for sure but I'd be interested to see what he'd do with Roger.

I saw Brady open for Gladys Knight at the Bowl and he was awful. The venue ate him up. The musicals really don't do well at the Bowl. Les Miz was the closest they ever came. Last year Guys and Dolls was heavily papered. This is really a non event over here. Perhaps more of a happening just to people that post here and on that other board. The Bowl is a concert venue. Where people drink as well as smoke the green stuff, party, and go to enjoy music concerts. Musicals just dont work there and those evenings just tend to drag. And even with Les Miz it was a bizzare mix of people there to see the show, partiers, and people on their cells and texting to death.

I think as individuals, each of the cast members would work. Skylar as Mark, Tveit as Roger, even Wayne Brady as Collins. (Note: I couldn't tell you a thing about Vanessa Hudgens so I have no thoughts on her as Mimi) But I'm not sure how the cast will look together on stage. Wayne Brady next to Skylar Astin will look strange. So as a cast, I'm not sure how they will look. But I really like the individual casting choices.

True, although I have been to many events where they don't! Not so much at the Gershwin/Mozart/John Williams type concerts or The Sound of Music screenings.

The Bowl always has a weird balance of things during the summer...

This is interesting, I assume a celebrity is going to be cast as Maureen. When I read this title, I thought Tveit would be Mark. He looks like a whittle boy in that picture. I think they all be fine though.

ooh that picture of Aaron Tveit as Roger and whoever that is as Mark... that looks like a high school backstage shot that someone would put up as their facebook profile!

as for the cast... i'm not as excited as i'd want to be... Vanessa Hudgens was an interesting casting choice but everyone else... not so much

Hmm.. I think I'll be going! :) Although I've never attended a performance at the Hollywood Bowl, can anybody tell me where the best place to sit is? I also heard that you can watch the rehearsals for free, correct?

If tickets are too expensive, then I'll just have to watch a rehearsal :/

Collins as older works for me- it's repeatedly mentioned that he used to be a college professor, right? He could easily be the oldest of the group- especially since the role was conceived with Tom Waits in mind in the mid-Nineties.

The website says there are no lawn seats and I doubt you can see the big screens even way far back, the place is huge!

Since I have no idea what this place is like I have a few questions. Are there playbills/programs handed out? Do you have to pay to watch from the grass? Is it rain or shine? Is there a stage door?
