An unfortunate turn of events for all involved. At least it had a healthy run and entertained thousands...

gee Craig, "an unfortunate event for all involved". Was there a train wreck I didn't hear about? Did the cast & crew perish?! AM I DEAD?!?
we had a lovely run there! The cast was tremendous and I am sure we will be HAPPILY opening our other companies to them all when the 'slots' are available.
In the meantime, anyone wanna buy a bunch of HUGE wigs and a lite-brite wall?!?!

I would love an Edna Wig. Think of Halloween.
Hey Mr.Shaiman sell them for Broadway Cares. I bet you could raise a lot of money.

Posted: 10/6/04 at 12:19pmJust wondering...common thoughts were when The Producers closed in Toronto after 33 weeks it was a failure. Hairspray will have about the same number of performances when it closes. Should we read anything into this? Is Toronto not the hotbed of theatre they think they are?

Auction them off at the next Broadway Cares event.
You will sell everything.
Heck, I even bought a cd of Harvey speaking at the flea market.
Have you heard that. It is killer.

I've always wanted to get me one of the giant ultra clutch cans from the finale and place in front of a my bedroom door, so that when I wake up and come out of teh bedroom in the a.m., I have to make agrand entrance through an exploding can of ultra-clutch.
I still say.. Amber finale wig, darren Voros, and BG2 is a happy boy for weeks.

The tour is here in Sacramento right now. It's still fabulous (saw it in SF recently as well), but the new Edna leaves a little to be desired. He is funny, and does some funny things, but falls flat often. It's amazing to see the energy that cast as a whole has though.
It's only scaled down a little from SF. I was worried the big light back drop would be done. That is what we heard. But, thank goodness, it's still there.

Craig, next you are gonna break the tragic news that the Unicorn Bookstore is closing it's beloved doors!
Let's get the positive word out on how AMAZING last night's performance of HAIRSPRAY on Broadway was, a few people from the office went and are STILL singing "You Can't Stop the Beat"..
BRAVO to the best show on Broadway, and the AMAZING new cast members who joined the wonderful remaining talents in the production last night.
See Mr. S?, I still gots it!, Buttkiss38 out!

I was under the impression that "Hairspray" was closing in Toronto to make way for the huge way of shows they're bringing in this season. (For example: Wicked's first performances on their national tour).
OT: I hear Idina Menzel is opening the Wicked tour in Toronto. Has anyone heard anything along the same lines?

Dammit,
I guess I'll have to see it a lot over the next while then...yay for the 26 buck seats...
That makes me really sad though. I guess that means that Wicked will move into that theatre for the summer though.

No, Wicked is doing a limited run from March 7 to April 1 (I could be wrong about April 1st).
Hairspray's got a while left, though, you're bound to get tickets. I just saw it at Princess of Wales over the summer and I had no trouble getting tickets right up front.

Posted: 10/6/04 at 2:10pmI'm so happy Toronto is not taking any prisoners with the shlop that's playing. Just like Millie in London, the UK wasn't fooled like Broadway audiences were. Toronto had The Producers close early, Hairspray, especially, is closing, you tell 'em Toronto! You don't have to put up with this crap! Let's see some good writing, please!!!

Posted: 10/6/04 at 2:18pmThat comment might have a titch more credibility coming from somebody with a different screen name.

Posted: 10/6/04 at 3:19pmhehe. I love how everyone attacks everything I say because of my screen name. No where did I ever ONCE even say that CATS is a musical with exceptional writing. I don't say that about anything, really. It's not a compliment that comes easy from me.
