It really is too bad that there aren't any theatre available.
Smaxie - any idea what has been converted that could be converted back to a Broadway house. Almost every time I pass the Hard Rock Cafe, I think about what a shame it is that that isn't a Broadway house (was it ever? movie house? vaudeville?)

I hope all the crazies that were screaming when this was first posted have relaxed. It has been confirmed.
For me, part of the fun of this msg board community is finding out news right before it breaks. There are many peeps here who are very connected and know inside info, often they share it before playbill, broadway.com, etc have posted.
Now, I realize there are some people who simply make up things, or think that if they start a false rumor it will come true and perhaps more than a few of you have been burned by them and therefore are so demanding of sources or links.
But again, I'll say - it's fun to find out before the masses - and most times that will mean that there will not yet be a link.

Oh... you can always take the Chinatown bus to NYC? REMEMBER : You have a choice to go to NYC and you dont need to see the shows in Boston! I dont see all the TOURING COMPANIES that goes to Boston. That's the beauty of the Northeast States-we are close enough to one another- Boston- New York- Philadelphia & DC~ A day trip is possible!

The original poster is still an ass in my book for choosing that inflammatory headline. Why make it seem more dramatic than it is? Next time, give us less histrionics are just share the facts since if you were in the loop enough to know what was happening out of town, then you were in the loop enough to know that everything is still ok (just pushed back a bit) in NYC.
They are working out the venue stuff, all the funding is still there and everything will move forward when it's sorted.

How is he an ass? He just stated... BRIGADOON CANCELLED.
It is not like he said That Lame Ass City Boston won't get the boring musical Brigadoon since it has been sent packing for another 100 years EVEN BEFORE IT OPENED....
Nope... just Brigadoon Cancelled. Simple and to the point.
btw. I love Boston, I spen 15 summers near Boston and the regon and I like Brigadoon. I was just making a point so please don't jump me for saying bad things about boston and brigadoon.. unless the jumping involves one of us being naked.

"No I believe you will be the idiot in about 48 hours...millie..."
Well my apologies ShowOff.
Next time, though, it'd be nice if you posted your source before "announcing" things.
In other news - I'll be suceeding Bailey Hanks in Legally Blonde! I don't have a source yet...

>Almost every time I pass the Hard Rock Cafe, I think about what a shame it is that that isn't a Broadway house (was it ever? movie house? vaudeville?)<
It was the Paramount Theatre, a 3,600 seat movie theatre/concert hall. It was gutted years ago, with the space being used for office space and for the New York Times next door.
But as far as Broadway theatres that are serving other purposes, the two biggies are the Mark Hellinger and the Hudson. The Hellinger, on West 51st Street across the street from the Gershwin, is currently the Times Square Church, but it is one of the best Broadway theatres for big Broadway musicals. It was sold outright to the Times Square Church in 1989, and who knows if we'll see it back again anytime soon. It seated around 1,600 and is an incredibly beautiful theatre.
The Hudson is on West 44th Street, near the Belasco. It is part of the Millennium Hotel and used for events. I think it has limited wing or fly space, and was mostly used for plays, but it's a gorgeous house. It was recently restored, with beautiful Tiffany mosaic glass work uncovered. No idea if it could feasibly house a Broadway show again, but I'd love to see it happen.
In the category of pipe dream, The Ed Sullivan Theatre, home of the David Letterman Show, was briefly the Hammerstein Theatre when it originally opened. It only served as a Broadway house for maybe 8 years at most, but has spent most of its existence as a TV studio. I'm curious what its fate will be whenever Letterman hangs up his hat.

jay* -- I love day trips to NYC, even Goodspeed, but nothing beats shows arriving in the town I live in. I like to save day trips for the shows that will probably never come to Boston ([title of show], etc.). Otherwise I'd be broke!
Even if we don't get any great shows to replace our try-outs, I have to admit we do have some pretty solid seasons this year from Lyric, Speakeasy, Huntington, etc.
Wasn't there also a rumor about Jersey Boys coming to the Wang? Or did I make that up completely?

Brigadoon Postponed
The Broadway Revival of Brigadoon is postponed at this time. I am very excited and grateful to be a part of another glorious piece of musical theatre and look forward to when the project begins in the future.

In reference to the original posts and Lic's post, I wish people would just post their sources and stop posting random "news stories" on a whim. Some anonymous person is NOT a source!
Legally Blonde is doing too well now to determine whether or not it will close in December. I think it'll wait till there is some major slump to decide on a closing date.

But that's not how these things really work. Sometimes, producers take a risk and hope that a theatre will become available, as when The Drowsy Chaperone was able to take the Marquis when The Woman in White fell off a cliff in January. But particularly with big musicals, the deal is made months in advance. In other words, I'm sure that West Side Story has its theatre already. Productions budgets have to be set, sets need to be designed, financial figures need to be analyzed with an eye toward operating cost, capitalization, recoupment.
