Silver Screen
I am to begin work on An Englishman in New York this September. Its a feature film starring John Hurt that centers around the later years of Quentin Crisp. I am looking forward to making my film debut!

Brigadoon Postponed
The Broadway Revival of Brigadoon is postponed at this time. I am very excited and grateful to be a part of another glorious piece of musical theatre and look forward to when the project begins in the future.

Legally Blonde is doing too well now to determine whether or not it will close in December. I think it'll wait till there is some major slump to decide on a closing date.

But that's not how these things really work. Sometimes, producers take a risk and hope that a theatre will become available, as when The Drowsy Chaperone was able to take the Marquis when The Woman in White fell off a cliff in January. But particularly with big musicals, the deal is made months in advance. In other words, I'm sure that West Side Story has its theatre already. Productions budgets have to be set, sets need to be designed, financial figures need to be analyzed with an eye toward operating cost, capitalization, recoupment.
Hey, jaystarr:
Thanks for the advice It was really kind of you to take the time and to make the effort. Individuals such as yourself really make me appreciate this board.
Now just to figure out my plans for October in New England....
Yes Smaxie, I realize that...I am just wondering why Legally Blonde would decide to close at this point in time while it is at one of its highest points.
It's just frustrating how so many people waltz on here and make some announcement, and many turn out to be false.
But maybe the future doesn't look as bright. Who can say. But we're four weeks to Labor Day, and the September falloff begins soon for a lot of shows.
I did point that out in an earlier post in another thread. But people kept arguing that there was no way Legally Blonde will close, etc. etc. I did mention it is the summer season and the hype from the reality show put the show at its highest point yet...I think Legally Blonde's future seems like it can go either way.
Follow up in Boston Globe today;
In the latest blow to its highly anticipated fall lineup. Broadway Across Amercia-Boston announced yesterday that the pre-Broadway tryout of "Brigadoon" at the Cloonial Theatre had been canceled. The moves were attributed to a lack of appropriate Broadway theatre space in the spring of 2009.
Also stated; Programmers have been working the phones non-stop to find replacements. After both Brigadoon and Nice Work If You Can Get It, "offically postponed". joe

As one who lives in Boston, I hope they do find a replacement for their line-up. I can't get to NYC nearly enough, so Broadway Across America-Boston (and some of the other lovely regional theater companies) helps me get my show fix. Though I do wonder what could replace it...
I'm hoping for a new Broadway try-out. But looking at Broadway Across Amercias site. The only shows that haven't come our way are; Jersey Boys, Color Purple, Happy Days, We Will Rock You and Chitty.
I know Curtains is suppose to kick off there national tour here. Since the backstage story is at the Colonial Theatre.
The mini-tour of Curtains is being produced by Theatre of the Stars in Atlanta. I'd imagine it would premiere first at their theatre?
Curtains tour
Too bad it is looking to play in the 2009-2010 season. It would be nice if it opened at the Colonial.
It would nice if Curtains opened at the Colonial, but I figured it probably wouldn't be the case. And I have no desire for Jersey Boys to stop through Boston (though it will eventually, I suppose) - I don't want to see it on Broadway, so my opinion will not change if it comes through Boston. It would probably do very well if/when it does, though, and would end up in the Opera House. I actually wish more shows would play the Colonial, as I like that space better (and the balcony doesn't feel like the nosebleed section).
And I hope I should never see it again. It's bad, bad, bad. I saw a revival in London a few years ago and it was soooo cheesy it could have been sponsored by Kraft!!

Without wanting to sound like the Prophet of Doom, could these premature shutterings be an indicator of the financial slump the country is in at the current time? I know other reasons have been posited (and with validity, I would think), but it seems signficant that the two are encountering difficulties at the same period of time. Maybe it's just a fluke (I certainly hope so) but ?????????
It would be nice to get Color Purple and Jersey Boys in since we have yet to have those shows in Boston.
This is just a really unfortunate situation. I remember seeing the Brigadoon performance at the Broadway in Boston gala and I was super impressed. It's too bad.

I haven't been this annoyed/disappointed since they canceled the pre-broadway run of "The Visit" at the Colonial starring Angela Lansbury and Phil Bosco. That same season we were also supposed to get a tryout of "Little Women" at the Wilbur. I still have the season subscriber brochure that had the artwork for both.
Apparently we're now getting "Dame Edna," "Movin' Out," and "Lord of the Dance." They're all listed on the Broadway Across America web site. They're all quick weekend engagements. Hopefully something big is down the road for us as well.
Eeeew! I hope that is not Broadway in Boston's idea of finding suitable replacements for the cancellation of two major pre-Broadway tryouts!
I'm happy to finally get to see Movin' Out, but I agree TheActr! I hope this isn't their equivalent to replacing Brigadoon and Nice Work.
Growwwrrrr.
Boo to Boston. We need a great season. It's been a while.
