I know alot of people dont like CATS, im not a huge fan myself, but dont think to much of it CATSNYREVIVAL. Alot of people dont think of what they really dislike after reading someone elses (not speaking about everyone on the thread). But after having ideas already put into ur head it can taint ur opinion IMHO

PLEASE! id rather sit through cats 100 times then sit through phantom one more, let it close and continue to run in london where shows seem to last forever (and no, i dont really believe that, but les miz, cats, and phantom for that matter are all still there, and that is my basis for that statement) give the majestic to a new show FOR GODS SAKE!

hmmm... cats at 54 is not a bad idea, but i think you may have a hard time getting roundabout to go for that. they seem to prefer edgier fare, but the naked on tuesdays bit may help you out.

I never thought I would like Cats until my father dragged me to the show in London. I had a great time and found it quite moving at times. The Pajama Game was the first musical I ever saw and therefore have a particular fondness for it. Metro ran for about two seconds, so I don't think there is any particular fear of it returning. I loved The Dead, though I think of it more as a play than a musical. Why were the songs never recorded? Gorgeous music. I thought Titanic was wonderful and only wish I could see it again. I like Guys and Dolls, but I didn't like the 1992 revival. Fiddler is a great show, but needs the right cast and right director for it to work well. Footloose.....ok, I agree about Footloose. It was a great idea that was poorly executed. The Music Man is charming with a brilliant score. Phantom is pretty to look at, but I liked the Kopit and Yeston version better.

I won't list my choices because I'd probably be stoned to death.

Oh, that reminds me, I want to ban any other Phantom other than Lloyd Webber's. For me, all the other scores (especially DAVID SPENCER'S) Were too cheesy. And most other stage versions cut out Raoul... The book for Yeston's was hysterical. They kept trying to find a way to show us how they first meet and it's not needed. Webber's is the only one I didn't laugh at. And it's the only one that has the kind of operatic score I would expect a musical called "The Phantom of the Opera" to have. The "Prima Donna" section where all nine of them are singing at the same time is so gorgeous....

Spencer's is like Disney's Phantom of the Opera and Yeston's is way too far from the original novel for me to even take it seriously. Plus I found myself listening to the songs thinking "Why is he singing, right now? This song is pointless." But, alas, this is just me opinion. Stone me if you want, I don't care.... Mister Matt, I asked Faith Prince and she told me THE DEAD was never recorded at all which really surprised me. Don't all shows have to submit a recording to be eligable for the Tonys?

Hey, Cats - settle down.

For some reason I had thought to be eligable for certain awards, some kind of recording had to be submitted. If I was wrong, you can just say "No, Matt. They don't have to do that."

let's see, other than sticking a fork in rent, i'd ask that they never return joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat to the great white way is it has become truly the property of community theatre.

Matt_G - The show only needs to officially open, run 8 performances a week, and the producers must invite the members of the nominating committee free of charge. There are a couple of exceptions, but those are the main requirements of eligibility. You can click the link to read the complete rules. Note: requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.

And Blast was an amazing display of musicianship and choreography from an art form that has been around for about thirty years in national competition that finally received the recognition it deserved. Bravo to Blast and may we see more in the future!

This whole post makes me sick. Just because you don't like a show, doesn't mean that it should be banned from Broadway. Yes, there is a such thing as good/bad art, but it doesn't mean that bad art should be banned. If people want to see a show, they should be able to see it. If a show has enough of a fan-base, it should be allowed on Broadway. I happened to like "Titanic the Musical," and I respect a lot of the others because they're operas (and while Andrew Lloyd Webber has written few good songs and even fewer really good shows, it's b/c of him that opera has been revived. That's a big deal! He will always be an important composer regardless of his talent or lack their of), not just musicals. If you don't like them, don't pay to see them. Otherwise, grow up!
