Looking to buy a birthday gift (for a Broadway Fan of course)and need some help! (Budget: under $20-$100)
The problem is that he has seen every show out there (literally) and owns his favorite soundtracks already, plus he lives in NYC so anything he would really want, he could have!
(Note: i do not live in nyc and would need to find/ship -or- Online Order said gift)
What about a TDF Membership? Or membership to the Lincoln Center or the Public Theater? (Granted, I don't know what they go for....but it wouldn't be too hard to find out.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
TKTS or Telecharge Gift Certificates...or cold hard cash.
I got a Telecharge certificate last Christmas from my kids and told them if they're ever at a loss, do the same thing over and over again. It will be put to good use and they know I'll love it.
You could do something UN Broadway too. Something he WOULDN'T get for himself. Lavish food? (Everybody ships now) B'way Coffee Table Book? (Joe Papp's book is GREAT and many think a bit price to spend on one's self.)
Look at one of the book threads floating around for more ideas.

How about a gift certificate to Playbill.com or BC/EFA?
"All our dreams can come true -- if we have the courage to pursue them." -- Walt Disney
We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
Eris -- the OP is NOT in NY; the gift recipient is.

there is a pretty entertaining book called "STOP THE SHOW!" about the mishaps and adventures that have caused someone to -stop the show-.
Also a book with a bunch of mini-interviews of broadway stars called "Making it on Broadway"
very entertaining reads.
And as far as coffee table books go, does your friend have favorite shows that you can buy him a coffee table book for? Rent, Wicked, Ave Q, and many more all have coffee table books. CABARET has one of my favorites.
What about the Kritzerland reissue of the OBC of Promises, Promises? It is an exceptional release that sold out quick, but there is another run of 1000 that was released due to popular demand.
The concerts at Lincoln Ctr for the NYCO. Tickets can be had for very little...the Bernstein Tribute with Cerevis, Clark, Ebersole, deHaas, Murphy, O'Hara and Urie. (11/7/10)
The Stephen Schwartz tribute with Paige, Mitchell, Chenowith, Esparza and Garber (4/21/11)
I bought a book of hundreds of seating charts for Broadway theatres, off-Broadway theatres and other NYC venues, and this has come in handy several times. I bought it at the theatre bookstore on 44th. I think it was around $25 or so.
Regarding Eris' suggestion of gift certificates. Can't the OP purchase them and have them sent either to himself or to the recipient?
I like the snowglobes with the shows reperesented from season to season. (Aren't they through BCEFA?)I am reading "Free for All" now and am enjoying it. Also the "Playbill Yearbooks" are nice and since they are a bit expensive, would make a nice gift in my opinion. Depending on the date of the Birthday, Patti Lupone's new book might be nice.
