Drowsy is getting sleepy.
Wow, only 3 shows made more money this week than last week:
1) Grease, no surprise there
2) Color Purple, god only knows why
3) Year of Magical Thinking, due to its closing

Posted: 8/27/07 at 4:03pmColor Purple is a good show.

Posted: 8/27/07 at 4:07pmFirst of all, that is VERY subjective. Many people would disagree. Secondly, even if it were widely accepted that Color Purple were a good show, there are other good shows open right now equally as good, if not better. Yet none of them made more money this week. Was Fantasia out last week and now she is back? Or something like that?

thats weird that Fantasia was out most of last week, but it still made more money than the week before.
and yeah, I wonder if DROWSY will be one of those September closings, or if they'll hold on till around December?

Posted: 8/27/07 at 4:21pmDoesn't Drowsy have a low nut? They'll stick around, I'll bet. They'll make it to Christmas and then put a t.v. star in.

There was bound to be a tourist slump. But I thought it would wait until September. Well, this week should be better. There's usually lots of vacationers the week before Labor Day, let's hope they're taking in some Broadway Shows.

Here's the BWW List. It's more thorough.

bjh2114, THE COLOR PURPLE, to most audiences, is a feel good show. You get to take a journey with someone who starts off young, abused, and hopeless, and travel through her life to see her grow into a proud, strong woman.
I have seen the show six times, and audience members laugh and shout like you've never heard and have tears streaming down their face by the end. Very few shows on Broadway offer such a whirlwind emotional experience.
Not to mention that THE COLOR PURPLE is one of only a few shows on Broadway with a primarily African-American cast, and audiences who may otherwise feel shut out from Broadway have the opportunity to flock to a show that they can relate to.
THE COLOR PURPLE is truly a gift to many people, and it is introducing Broadway theatre to bus loads of potential future theatre-goers. So please, give the show a break. It is certainly not doing any harm to Broadway. Quite the opposite, in fact, so I don't see any reason to knock the fact that the show is having a successful run.
