Good for NEXT TO NORMAL! I'm feeling more comfortable about them lasting through the winter. There average ticket price was the second highest it's ever been, and their certainly making their nut.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same for SHREK. Ouch.
Also, it seems HAMLET is finally finding it's legs. I guess people realized it was there once they saw the reviews (whether positive or negative) and bought tickets.
Glad to see Hair still going very strong.
I feel bad for Shrek. I cannot see this lasting much longer.
I second the HAIR sentiments. After seeing it on Saturday, it's my new favorite.
I've been predicting the end of Shrek for about a year now, but it seems like grosses be damned, they're gonna keep this thing open forever.
I'll be interested to see how Oleanna fares in the coming weeks. And Lord only knows what'll happen with Memphis, particularly depending on how the reviews go.

Ouch "Shrek!" "Mary Poppins" didn't drop so much because there were TONS of people on here who wanted to see Laura Michelle Kelly.

They didn't do too horrible this summer. The drop in grosses came after the Labor Day holiday weekend. I think they are going to try to keep this thing open for another month or so and see if there is an increase in grosses. They might also try to push this thing through the holiday season, but that is the latest I would see it running.

The TONS of people on here who wanted to see Laura Michelle Kelly represent a minority of theatergoers.

Can anyone really see Donuts having a long run?
And, why is The Niel Simon plays grosses SO low!
Neil Simon was offering super low prices for previews if you bought by a certain date, and I'm pretty sure it was automatic (i.e. no discount code), so they obviously aren't expecting to make too much for the first few weeks of each play.
BBM has such a low gross because it has been papering like crazy.

Reverse the thought on Brighton Beach Memoirs and you've got it right. Shows paper because they have empty seats. The grosses are low because people aren't buying. Believe me, they'd much rather sell those seats than give them away.
I'd almost be willing to put money down that Shrek will be gone by January. There's no way that even Dreamworks can afford to keep losing money all the way through the winter.
God, I can't believe Shrek just keeps floatin' by!! This is ridiculous. I love the show, but as an actor, how sad is it to perform to a house thats a little over half filled? I really hope this show picks up some sort of steam!!

Am I wrong in thinking Finians numbers dont look too great?
Finian's Rainbow just started previews. By all accounts thus far it's a glorious production and is likely to open to ecstatic reviews. I wouldn't count it out based on 7 preview performances.

Pretty well!
Its a tony award winning musical and its at 80%! how is the other tony award winning musical this year doing? 100%?
huh.
Just because the reviewers wanted to make the public some money for the first time in their existence I cant control that. odd that its always on tkts and on tdf sometimes. i don't think billy elliot is ever on tkts.
huh

massofmen, just a thought but I think he was referring to your "gone by Labor Day" premonition.

I remember in an article that the producers of "Shrek" said that they don't expect the musical to recoup until 2010. They may just keep open past January and see if the film "Shrek Forever After" can boost its sales.

Thanks theatrefan4, but I'll just repost his posts to be clear. Is it that hard to admit you were wrong about something?
In reference to Hair,
"this show is going to bomb.
if it was playing while BUsh was still in office and the War was prevalent it might work, not now. NOw people are worried about the economy and don't care about the war or hippies. This show will never recoup."
"Hair is 7 million, op costs are around 500,000. No advance tix sales to speak of, and the subject matter isn't current with today's society as we are pulling out of IRAQ in 2010. show has no basis to be here. also we are in a recession. so most shows will die.
It will close by labor day. any takers? come on..it will be fun"
"and you think Hair will last in THIS economy? where banks are dying, and unemployment is almost double digits? Why in THIS wonderful economy will it work, and in what economy would it not work.
Again, you are talking to "the prophet" here as someone else deemed me already.
Wss has great word of mouth since it arrived in NYC. I think it will win the tony for revival. "
Mary Poppins is looking better. I really do wonder how much longer Shrek is going to last though.
^Everyone seems to think that it will close by January, but week after week of bad numbers and there still has been no statement about it closing or no real rumors from "somebody" a person on the board knows from the show.
