No, because Emma will probably be replacing Leigh Ann around March and Emma will DEFINITELY boost up sales from her LB: Search for Elle Woods fans.
HAHAHAHA. That gave me a really good laugh. But really, if the reality show fans couldn't keep Legally Blonde open what makes you think they would be able to give Gypsy a boost??

Posted: 10/27/08 at 10:14pmEmma's understudying Dainty June right now, and although she hasn't gone on yet, I'm sure that they will find a (not as good as Patti, but good enough to play until Fall) replacement for Rose) and then Emma will be playing June full-time from March-Fall, which is still not long enough.

Posted: 10/27/08 at 10:36pmAre you ****ing retarded or something? This is PATTI'S show it will close when PATTI leaves. And even if it doesn't I don't think Leigh Ann would wish that woman on an audience 8 times a week.

No one will be replacing Patti LuPone when she leaves "Gypsy" in the spring. It's a show that's completely built around her performance and star power -- filling that role is not the same as finding the 27th Elphaba.
Even if there were someone out there with Patti's stature who wanted to have her turn in the role on Broadway, it would be a really bad career move -- there would be absolutely no way to focus on the performance instead of the inevitable comparison.
And BTW, no one cares about those LB reality show girls.

Posted: 10/27/08 at 10:48pmIt is Patti's show. Just as "Wicked" was Idina's show, but they've survived without her. "Gypsy" has survived almost 50 years without Patti (because she was a kid when it opened) and it can survive without her for a few MONTHS. The fact is that Emma has a huge fanbase that none of you know about because I'm the biggest Emma fan on here. They just don't post here. Trust me, it's HUGE and they are big theatre fans, not just MTV fans. Real theatre fans who go see Broadway shows. Crowds will flock to see Emma. I know I will. Laugh right now, but who will be laughing when Emma practically SAVES "Gypsy" from closing?

Wicked IDINA'S SHOW!?!?!? EMMA SAVES GYPSY!?!?!
WTF!?!?!
Gypsy has NEVER survived without it's star. The only reason the production was even CREATED is because of PATTI!!! NOT Patti's replacement. You have got to be the biggest idiot here NOT to know that.

I don't like the idea of actor's "owning" shows unless
a) the part was truly created for them (as in written for them)
b) actors are playing themselves
c) they are revues
Yes, some people thought that "Wicked" was Idina's show, but the Broadway production is on their 7th Elphaba, so obviously that's false. I don't think that "Gypsy" will run long after Patti leaves, BUT I think that it can run for some time, because just think about how many Emmaholics like me will come.

I know of one other Emmaholic, and he's in rehab right now.
She's talented, but she's not that talented.

Emmaholics? Really? Are you drunk?
I think when Arthur Laurents SAYS that this production was created for Patti, it MEANS that it was created for her.

You can't be serious. There's no way people are going to "flock" to Gypsy just to see Emma in a supporting role. The production is going to close in March because this current incarnation of Gypsy is PATTI'S show. It's build around her and no one else. Just like the 2003 revival was Bernadette's show and the 1990 revival was Tyne Daly's show. Therefore when Patti leaves, it will close!

Posted: 10/27/08 at 11:12pmI heard their taking down the Patti Lupone sign from the theatre to replace it with a billboard of Emma Zaks saying "I just quit smoking come see me i'm dainty..patti lupone patti lascone.."

Lavin played more than 2 weeks. More like 5 months.
Linda Lavin took over the role of Rose July 30, 1990. The production ran with her until January 6, 1991. (It reopened with Daly April 28, 1991 for an additional 105 performances.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Going back to AUGUST: The replacement cast is not good. I'll be sad to see it go, believe me (I've seen it 7 times), but... if ever there was a time :-
I'm looking forward to the movie, but I'm going to attend one more time to see if the show is any better than my last time (with Johanna Day, etc), and if it's not, I predict it'll be closing because that cast was doing nothing for the show

Forgive my ignorance, but who IS this Emma, that her fan(s) DARE to compare her popularity to Patti's ???? I've honestly never heard of her and I consider myself quite well-informed regarding Broadway ! Is she like Clay, very well known in the U.S., but completely unknown to the rest of the world ??? Her fan sure sounds like a Claymate !

Emma was literally one of the worst contestants on "Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods." And that's saying a LOT since they were all pretty awful. She was a terrible actress and a horrible singer and she was a mega biotch. She only got into "Gypsy" because Papa Zaks is none other than Jerry Zaks.
In short: she sucks and doesn't deserve to be Dainty June's understudy. Or anything for that matter. That's how bad she is.
