I'm a bit worried about AUGUST: OC. Well, the show has had a nice long successful (critically/financially) run so it's okay if it must close but it's one of those shows I wish could run for years. SPRING AWAKENING is doing really badly, no wonder they posted a closing notice. I can't believe shows like GYPSY and IN THE HEIGHTS are making more and packing them up more than some of the tourist traps are. Pretty neat.

Holy ----. THE SEAGULL is really flying (BOOOOOOOOOOOO!).

Honestly, (and I am NEVER this person) I miss the original cast. The replacements do nothing for me. I hope it doesn't close for a variety of other reasons, but...
>Holy ----. THE SEAGULL is really flying (BOOOOOOOOOOOO!).<
Why BOOO? Isn't it a nice reassurance that a serious play, and one that has had several high-profile revivals in New York in recent years, can do well on Broadway, even without the benefit of tabloid-fodder over-the-title stars?
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
Chicago will do FINE. It has survived 6 MONTHS without a D-list celeb. Nothing will take it down. Everyone plots Chicago's downfall every time they dip. NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.
Chicago is still doing about 90%, so that is not going anywhere. If they were continuously having bad weeks, like the shows that have announced closings, then they would have a reason to close.

RE AUGUST: OC, Estelle Parsons is fantastic in the show (I never saw Deanna Dunagan unfortunately) and the replacements that I have seen in the show are all wonderful. Last time I saw it was on Amy Morton's and Sally Murphy's last day, so I'm not sure how they replacements are faring (I can't imagine them being better though, especially I can't conceive anyone touching Morton's performance).

lol, I totally just thought the BOOO was for the kinda lame (although I did laugh) Seagull/flying pun.
When I last saw A:OC, Amy Morton and Sally Murphy were still in it, but I agree that the replacement cast was mostly underwhelming. Parsons was pretty great though.
ATOTC and 13 are still very low. I wonder how long they can last, especially ATOTC. There's no way it can be meeting its weekly nut.

Predictions 13-Will probably be closing RIGHT after Thanksgiving The 39 Steps-Will maybe play at the Helen Hayes for 2 months, and then close around March Avenue Q-Another one of the shows that will be closing VERY soon after the New Year Boeing-Boeing-I'll give them to February TOTC-Early Spring, will not make it to the Tonys August-Will not make it to August '09!!!!Lawl! Spring '09 Grease-Spring '09, they can't live off stunt casting Chicago-Summer '09 Mary Poppins-Summer '09 Young Frankenstein-Summer '09 Gypsy-Fall '09 The Little Mermaid-Fall '09, like around September/October The Phantom of the Opera-Can not run forever and is no doing worse than ITH which NEVER happened and I can honestly see this closing in Fall '09 In the Heights-Winter '09 Nonpredictables because they do too well Billy Elliot, South Pacific, Mamma Mia!, The Lion King, Jersey Boys, Wicked
Phantom still plays to over 85% capacity...unless something drastically changes by the end of next year, I'm betting it'll still be occupying the Majestic through 2009 at the least.
I bet 13 and/or TOTC will post closing notices within the next 2 weeks.
Your Phantom prediction is off the mark. The show survived years of $500,000-$600,000 grosses (during the early part of this decade, it looked grim for this sow), and is stronger the past few years than it was 8 years ago. Phantom made a good profit this week. Last I heard, their nut was not over $737,000 a week. There is no indication right now pointing to a closing next year.
How to properly use its/it's:
Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...
Wow, you just predicted that everything will be closing on Broadway this coming year. That's a bit scary. And In The Heights is still doing well, so no, that will not close by winter. Again, Chicago still gets over 90% sometimes, so that will stay open.

>The 39 Steps-Will maybe play at the Helen Hayes for 2 months, and then close around March<
Based on what, exactly? That show has rarely, if ever, had a losing week. If it is managing to consistently draw an audience at an out of the way theatre like the Cort, it should fare just fine in a theatre in the heart of the district like the Helen Hayes.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
"No, because Emma will probably be replacing Leigh Ann around March and Emma will DEFINITELY boost up sales from her LB: Search for Elle Woods fans."
hahaha that made me laugh so hard! Yup, that'll totally happen. Even though Patti is leaving in March, they'll still keep Gypsy open because Emma Zaks will definitely sell more seats. I believe they'll change it to "Emma Zaks Gypsy." Forget Patti. haha... wow.
