Everybody but a select few seemed to have gotten a nice bump this week.
- YAY PURLIE!!! Those are the numbers I want to see and I’m glad that word of mouth is finally catching on. They were a nearly full house last Thursday and it gives me hope that it will keep chugging along.
- Sad that HLL had to announce closing for the sales to increase (by capacity) - I know they had a few sell out performances this past week (even with Conrad out) and it’s gearing up to look like more will happen as we near closing.
- Danny DeVito has really turned out to be quite the cash cow for Roundabout. Who knew? Granted, the last play he did on Broadway was a sellout too, but that also had Mark Ruffalo, Jessica Hecht, and Tony Shalhoub

What would you expect? It’s the hottest ticket in town.

Listen - celebrity casting does not always mean successful show.
Some recent examples include Forest Whitaker in HUGHIE, Michael Shannon and Audra McDonald in FRANKIE & JOHNNY, Glenda Jackson and Pedro Pascal in KING LEAR, Sally Field in THE GLASS MENAGERIE, and Allison Janney in SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION

Imagine demanding someone to listen. Ew. Every single generation has seen Danny in some capacity and he's an incredibly funny guy. So, it's not a surprise, in any capacity, that he's successful in television, film, and theater (unlike the other people you mentioned).

It looks like mixed reviews didn't affect Gutenberg! in any way. Hopefully strong WOM will carry it to closing on a very high note. I loved that show.

To be fair, the examples you site are of extremely heavy plays. Danny DeVito is a beloved comedic star playing a sort of version of himself in a comedy at the Roundabout. If Danny were starring in King Lear, I doubt it would sell either.

I know, I luckily got my tickets before the price jump. It's just wonderful to see this show get the recognition it deserves
