ljay: I believe that's an understatement - what a lousy week. I guess people were scared of the transit strike, plus with the holidays coming up, it's likely that people were buying advance tickets for shows rather than seeing them this weekend.
On the other hand, everything I saw this weekend was pretty filled.

Posted: 12/19/05 at 5:23pmUnfortunately I have a feeling she will not last past Feb.- She deserved a superior show than the one she was given.....a shame...and the producers in their press release said they wanted to run a year on Broadway ,then tour- Ha- if they are prepared to lose millions-good luck- but methinks the Shuberts will replace her with some musical for the Spring- Drowsey perhaps?

Posted: 12/19/05 at 5:48pmThese sorts of one woman Broadway things don't generally run very long anyway these days. Recall that Elaine Stritch (who got across the board rave reviews) only ran for three months, while Bea Arthur only ran for two. Chita will probably be gone in a month or two.

Surprising that so many shows are doing so badly
I always knew Chita would not really sell to out of towners but it appears that (maybe due to the reviews) it is not doing well with local folk either. I kick myself we bought tickets @ full price but we are going with a couple we met from the board. How about them apples ?
At least Chita got her well deserved moment in the sun

Posted: 12/19/05 at 10:39pmWOMAN IN WHITE is sinking fast. Despite the movie version of RENT performing way below expectations, it has boosted the show grosses higher than they had been in the past few years. SWEENEY is doing ok (above $500 K) but given the rave reviews it should be doing better. But no...people still line up to see the dreadful PHANTOM for the umpteenth time instead.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
