Actually, according to some of the press, it's the best week in Broadway history. The week between Xmas and New Years is always the best of the year, but between most shows doing a 9 show week and extra premium seating, this week's gross topped $25 million, breaking the record set the same week last year by $3 million.

Posted: 1/3/07 at 12:19pmThe Daily News (among others, I'm sure) also mentioned today that the best week ever notation should come with the asterisk that a lot of shows also bumped up their ticket prices about $20 for the holiday period.

im surprised that color purple and vertical hour both bucked the holiday trend and didnt draw in the holiday crowds.
and im a lil nervous that at their holiday peak, spring awakening, company and grey gardens didnt pack them in, with february looming.
but still, glad bway is doing well.

Posted: 1/3/07 at 12:49pmHoly... Wow! Some shows like The Producers more than doubled their previous weeks totals. That's awesome! It's not surprising that ticket prices were probably bumped up, discounts almost non existent, and other things which skewed the actual total, but still, the numbers are still very positive.

all I have to say is THE WEDDING SINGER deserved numbers like that every week
but yeah, I'm also a bit nervous, mostly for GREY GARDENS- it deserves better numbers than that
best of luck to it- it is the by far the best show on Broadway that has opened this season!

Posted: 1/3/07 at 2:34pmA great week for pretty much everyone, but the coming 2 months will be the real test for many shows. We'll see how things turn out.

Posted: 1/3/07 at 3:18pmWow Wedding Singer more than doubled it's gross! They made almost a $500,000 profit! Hopefully that can help them recover some of the losses they made and further develop plans for a tour!

Posted: 1/3/07 at 4:16pmWow, I think this is the first time "Tarzan" has it a million, correct or no?

Posted: 1/3/07 at 4:29pmTWSfan your correct. The closet before this week they had to a million was the Thanksgiving day week where they grossed something in the 900,000. I'm very happy Drowsy Chap climbed back up from last week that show was amazing and it deserves to stay on broadway. I'm so glad that Tarzan is doing good as well.

I'm so happy for everything! I think it's sad that this is the best news I have heard all week.
Spring Awakening needs to keep climbing, and A Chorus Line needs to stay exactly where it is right now.
Company & Grey Gardens needs to at least try and maintain those numbers every week.

*tear* if only TWS did that every week. Then we wouldn't have seen a closing show.
But wow- everything did amazing! woahh
re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 12/31/2006#20
Posted: 1/3/07 at 6:26pmThat would be fantastic! But sadly, TWS went. And I'm still depressed about it! haha

The Wedding Singer couldn't even manage to fill more than 60% of the theatre on closing night... if it had done that, it probably would have been full capacity, or ALOT closer.
But if one can't even fill a theatre on closing night, then it deserved to close.

It's "good news" for the producers of Broadway but if the actors, crew or musicains want a raise it's hell to pay.
Looks like the DISNEY shows are around for a long time.
