how many show die in the winter? shows waiting in the wings?"
I highly doubt any of these would close up shop so soon. I can imagine ISLAND and SPONGEBOB holding on until the Tonys and PLAY THAT GOES WRONG going up until the end of its July 1st extension ending (since its cheap to run). I don’t see BEAUTIFUL being toppled since it’s become a Boomer tourist show.
KINKY BOOTS is the only one that I think will have some make or break weeks ahead since their replacements aren’t exactly setting the box office on fire. I think they may be done come Labor Day at the latest
I don't know what its weekly nut is, but YTD for the same comparable weeks, Kinky Boots is only about 3 1/2 - 4% lower than in 2017 and only 1% less than in 2016, i.e., even before Urie, 2017 business was modestly better than 2016. I am guessing that it has settled into a pattern and will be around until it is forced out of the theatre by a glut of shows looking for a home, coupled with some individual weekly losses that enable an eviction notice, even if it is making money over the course of the year. It will be very interesting to see.
Some people have been predicting the demise of Chicago periodically for the better part of a decade. While I don't think KB will ever be Chicago, it may still have some significant life left, especially if they can do a successful stunt casting going into the fall. Ultimately, I am betting that it will make it until Fall 2019.
