Posted: 2/26/07 at 3:24pmWow Spring Awakening went down quite a bit. That surprises me. I thought it would have gone up due to TV appearances.

Posted: 2/26/07 at 3:26pmAmazing week for mid Feb with 18 shows above 90% of capacity!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Gee, BEAUTY only made $725,000!!
Who closes a show making that much money????
I thought DISNEY liked money.
Guess they had me fooled.

such a shame seeing Journeys End, Talk Radio and Vertical Hour struggling like that- esp Journeys End, which just got rave reviews across the board and is playing to literally 2/3 empty houses.
(Can anyone think of a show that was a real hit at the Belasco?)
last week was Pres Week- most of the city was closed on Mon, and the weather wasnt too bad, so it was actually a long holidayish weekend. but still surprised to see Hairspray and Producers suddenly doing so well...

Realize that show always drop during their opening weeks -- sometime quite significantly -- due to the tons of comps given out (to critics, to VIPs, friends, family, and colleagues of the cast, crew and producers). Look for Journey's End to rebound at the box office next week -- though, to be sure it has a long way to go to become profitable.
As for the last hit at the Belasco, Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington had a profitable run there less than two years ago.

Posted: 2/26/07 at 4:36pm% up a lot, average ticket prices down a bit for most shows. Must be a mob scene at the TKTS booth. Can't say I blame them, with the weather and all.

Posted: 2/26/07 at 4:44pmMargo - interesting about Julius Caesar. I thought it was a poor production, or at best uneven. But the star turn helped I guess.

Congrats to Hairspray! Tarzan did well too!
Also another congrats to Mary Poppins, I'm praying it will (some how) eventually beat out Wicked.

Posted: 2/27/07 at 8:02amPoor Company. I was there on Friday night, and the orchestra was maybe 80% filled, the front mezz was about 70% filled and the rear mezz had about 12 people in it. On a weekend when it was so hard to get tickets to anything else, they should have had little trouble filling that place up.

Posted: 2/27/07 at 8:45amI saw Journeys End on Saturday night. Orchestra was full but mezzanine was practically empty. Hope it picks up due to it being a great show and the reviews it received. However, remember that Spring Awakening had to struggle in the beginning to get the attendance up. So we can only hope....

Poor Company. They need to do some TV advertisements, I have yet to one TV ad for Company.
Glad to see A Chorus Line back to it's regular numbers.
