1.  See the first comment on this post regarding comps.

2.  94% is the number of seats occupied (sold or comp'd)

3.  If you look at the gross amount last week and divide by 8 performance it is about $70k a show.  This week they lost about $70k, or one show.   Opening night is usually mostly all complimentary tickets for producers, cast guests, press, and other invited guest.  They may sell a few tickets to the general public, but it is basically a zero income show.

So that is why the gross potential (which is the amount of selling every ticket at full price for every show in a week) was lower.

Was it just comped for opening night or the whole week?

Yes it is.    Comps usually go to "guests" of the production.   For example, I received a comp ticket to Cinderella for opening night because I was the "plus one" of the rehearsal accompanist.  They provided her with two tickets for the work on the show.     Producers all get XX number of tickets (which when you consider they put $$$ on to back the show, is it really comp?), cast usually get so many tickets to give to friends and family, creatives, crew, marketing staff, etc.   Look at the names in the program, hundreds of people work on the show and many of them will get tickets for opening night.

Opening night is also followed by a party of which these guests are invited.

On other nights, comps are provided to media and other marketing staff to help promote the show.

Opening night. It was opening night. They comp Opening night because celebritys and media wouldn't pay to come.

But don’t be suprised if the rest of the run is heavily discounted/comped.

Probably just on Opening Night.  Though the press may have had tickets for earlier performances that week.

I know the prom wanted to make it the tonys, but come on, these numbers are horrible. Do you think they will close before, if the nominations are not what they want?

I think The Prom will post a closing notice the morning after the Tony telecast.

Be More Chill definitely was affected by not only opening night comps but also all press comps throughout the week leading to opening. It's still dicey how it will do given that each week of previews saw a sharp drop in income, but this show has surprised me before, so I don't think anything is a given.

On the other hand, it's starting to look like the writing is on the wall for King Kong and The Prom, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Waitress, Beautiful, or My Fair Lady packing up soon after impressive runs. The real question marks for me are The Cher Show and Pretty Woman, both of which I expected to be doing better than they are. Time will tell!

They're both shows that *should* do well with tourists, so they may improve as we get closer to the summer. Just my two cents.

The same could be said of King Kong, although its in much more dire straits, and probably costs more to run.

As for The Prom...well, I'm rooting for it. Fingers crossed.

Also rooting for The Prom.

Prom season in general is coming up so who knows? Maybe that would help?
