"According to Stew, only regular visitors on this site are allowed to have opinions."
And by Stew's logic, he must be a shill himself, since he has fewer posts than the person he accused, despite being here for a longer time.

Thank you FishermanBob & others.
And while it's a good point that IF/THEN grossed over 1 million in its first full week, I think a large part of that can be attributed to Idina's star power than the show itself - granted it does help with the show's overall hype. I don't think that is the case is that for FN, which has 3 above the title leads but none being anywhere near as big of a draw as Idina.

^But your reasoning is irrelevant, since your original post was merely a general question (even if rhetorical): "How many new musicals, even those based off of movies, start their first full week of previews with million-dollar grosses?"
The answer is not many. But it's happened.

I'm not so sure. While at the If/Then Stage Door on Saturday I could look across the street to Finding Neverland and the crowd there rivaled the crowd at If/Then.

There will be Glee effect. A Harvey effect. A Peter Pan effect. A successful family film effect. A Gary Barlow effect. And so on.
While I get that a lot of people here just won't like the show, and it might not do well, I don't know why anyone would be surprised if it does well.
We can't have every show aimed at a cognoscenti audience - the rest of us wouldn't go and see them often enough...

Posted: 3/24/15 at 8:38pmIs this show squarely aimed at "family friendly" ? Because I recall the movie with Depp/Winslet was a bit dark.

What skies said. I never saw the film but it didn't strike me as a family friendly movie as much as an Oscar bait period piece.
