I'm a little shocked that Hughie is down by THIS much. With the announcement of its closing, I thought it would have picked up a little bit!

Disaster has to be giving out a ton of comps. No Broadway show can survive on an average ticket price of $44.

Not all comps go through papering services. It seems like they've been sent to a lot of friends & other Broadway shows, according to social media.

Blackbird has to be a disappointment. It's a tough sell despite the star power, I think the word of mouth for the Crucible should be good. It's already at 90% capacity.

Sad that most musicals are playing to 1,000 people a night in 1600 seat theaters. During the week it is probably closer to 700-800. Things will pick up for sure by the end of March.

I have a feeling Blackbird will pick up soon... hoping Eclipsed gets a spike from those fantastic reviews. Really happy to see The Humans growing every week in the typically "cold" winter months.

It's interesting to compare the 3 surviving musicals that opened in March/April of last year, namely AAIP, SR, and FN. All three box office dropped considerably after New Year's and the big question for them is will they revive enough in the Spring to keep going and recoup their investments.

I heard that AIP is very close to recouping. But it will be very hard for them to regain their 1 million gross status. Their advances must be very low. And The King And I- will Marin even go in? If she does, it will be for a very short time. I doubt Lincoln Center will want to lose money after a year.....isn't is a rule that salaries have to revert to Production contracts for not for profit after a year's run? And that is a huge cast.

again... for the thousandth time... NFP companies cannot "lose" money. by the very nature of their productions, they're not netting a profit or making any money. they are getting many of their running costs subsidized through private support. it's not cut and dry.

So when a nfp does earn a profit is it really a profit?

Non profits can make profits and lose money. It's called budget deficits and surpluses.

King and I can certainly lose money at this point. This isn't the same as a MTC run. They're beyond their original run.

"So when a nfp does earn a profit is it really a profit?"
This is an existential question.
