Truth be told, enjoyed OTT a hell of a lot more than AAIP

Skies... OTT = On The Town, not On The 20th Century

I did as well, but OTT hasn't hit their nut in weeks (months?) and their capacity % is dire.

Biggest mistake they made was going into the airplane hanger known as the Lyric
The Lyric should be used for concerts or special shows only. It is simply to big to make a Broadway show have any chance of succeeding.

Ten years on Broadway for Jersey Boys is incredible, but there's no doubt with these recent numbers that the end of the road is near.
Once they start allowing regional productions it's going to make a fortune all over again.

OTT has only been in the black in 7 of 37 frames, and most of those were marginal.

Right, which is why I am so very confused how they are still afloat.

I believe that the 2 weeks before the Tonys are traditionally slow weeks. There is a bump for those shows who take home some prizes and there are always closing notices posted right after. I cannot believe how many millions have been flushed down the toilet for those flop shows that are hanging on for reasons i have no clue about. Isn't it obvious that if there is no interest after a show opens, that there won't be any after a month of performances. The summer will be interesting to see if the weak euro has any effect on the grosses. The million dollar club will remain so......2 million for Lion King for an 8 performance week-WOW. Curious if Hedwig will hold on for Taye to start if grosses don't improve. Criss is a bigger name but Taye may attract a different demographic. To me-those premium tickets are nothing but a scam but if suckers wanna shell out the big bucks-so be it.

I think Hedwig needs to lower ticket prices all around because they barely budge and the discounts don't help much.

Wait wait wait, your saying is too large for a show to succeed. Then how do you explain wicked which is in the Gershwin and is even larger? I think the theatre should fit with the size of the production. So I don't think the lyric should be used for concerts or special shows.

Im very curious what Hedwig's running costs are. If Darren Criss can only rake in $400,000, I wonder how much Taye will bring in. I see the show closing after the holidays unless they can really bring in a huge name.

I'm going to guess the running costs of Hedwig fall between 375-400K.
Having said that, I don't think other than NPH any of the Hedwigs so far are "big" names. Rannels and JCM have BW reps as seasoned veterans, Michael Hall and Darren Criss are more TV names but not really big stars. Taye might do very well because he might fall into the BW going crowd type of demo.

I imagine there are upcoming shows that want the Lyric. Something like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would be suitable.

Hedwig had their shoT at "BW going crowds" with Rannells and JCM, you said it yourself. They have the potential to bring in some of the big names, but for some reason they just aren't doing so.

Hi. New to this message board. Wouldn't the running costs of Hedwig be lower than $400K per week? The show only has 2 actors, plus a small band (with four or five band members). What would you estimate would be the running costs of Gigi and On The Town?

I would guess Gigi and On the Town are between 550-650. 350-400 seems right for Hedwig. And dear god, The Visit. What a disaster.

OTT has been reported at 650-675; I suspect Gigi is at least 600

The Lyric is larger than the Gershwin by 67 seats, according to this week's numbers. And WICKED is more an aberration, being such a success at that size, than ON THE TOWN is for failing to fill the house consistently.

I'm really glad so many new shows have made it into the million dollar 'club'! Something Rotten, The King and I (well, revival), An American In Paris, Finding Neverland..bravo!
Also - this is just my opinion, I LOVE Wicked but say it opened 2 years ago, last year, this year, what have you - in the Gershwin (or, the Lyric, or the Broadway) I don't think it would be such a success today with this economy. I don't think many shows these days last long in the bigger theaters, no matter how great the production is. I mean, look how many shows have gone in and out of the Broadway the past few years (Shrek, Promises Promises, Sister Act, Cinderella, Dr. Zhivago). I'm not saying they were all incredible, but, I think if they had been in smaller theaters then some would have definitely had a longer life.

I wish they would just move The Lion King to the Lyric so it would be able to fill that barn

No the Gershwin has 1933 seats and the lyric is smaller by only three seats with 1930 seats.

^No. Based on the total capacities listed in the grosses table the difference between the two is 67 seats as jnb9872 says above.

the lyric has 1938 seats anyway. It is the largest broadway house and beats the gershwin by 5 seats

No, frogs_fan is correct. At is current seating arrangement, the Lyric seats 1874. The Gershwin seats 1807. Just do the math according to the grosses, its simple and irrefutable.
