Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/6/2007
re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/6/2007#25
Posted: 5/7/07 at 11:09pmNo. If Journey's End doesn't get a decent set of nominations, most likely, they will post a closing notice the next day. That's usually what happens. I remember about 10 years ago or so, there were 3 plays that didn't do well with the nominations and all closed the next week. There will be another round of closings during June after the Tonys.

Congratulations to JOURNEY'S END on receiving a special citation from the New York Drama Critics Circle tonight.
And congrats to SPRING AWAKENING for winning the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, in addition to tying IN THE HEIGHTS for Best Musical at the Lucille Lortel Awards, and for winning the Lortel Award for Best Lighting Design.

Posted: 5/8/07 at 10:06amSpring Awakening (like Company, GG, etc.) may have started to exhaust its target audience. With tourists staying away in droves, apparently, only a very few shows can expect extended sell-outs, even with repeat business.

Posted: 5/8/07 at 11:46amLegally Blonde didn't even take a dent for the two weeks bookending it's opening night. They must not have papered too much, or if so, they certianly sold the rest of the seats in the Palace.

Grey Gardens, you're breaking my heart!
Hope the Tony nods boost ticket sales.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 2:28amLooks like "Curtains" as legs. It's apparently getting good word of mouth..people seem to like it.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 2:37amI saw curtains and it's great...no wonder the sales are good..but it's interesting that it's doing better than just about anything on broadway....Curtains must be growing due to word of mouth....

Im glad blonde is doing well its a bloody fun show
and the person predicting it will start to decline and doesnt have staying power i beg to differ, i think this one is going to run and run, well done to the cast and crew.
Sad about Company and Grey Gardens grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I saw LEGALLY BLONDE on Sunday & loved it, loved it. I think it's going to be the next HAIRSPRAY at the BO.
And if COMPANY picks up some Tony noms next week it should (& deserves to do better.) Raul Esparza & Barbara Walsh are wonderful.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 3:36pmHonestly, unless Legally Blonde had no marketing, no score, and no female lead, it was bound to be a hit. The bitty boobie club will be obsessing over the show for at least a year.

Posted: 5/9/07 at 4:01pmI think Tonys could help Company for a few months, but not that much.
