And your basis on this is...? At least according to people who've seen it, it's actually a fun night out at the theatre (and probably far more enjoyable than Margaritaville.) I commented that it didn't have a good week, but I don't think a closing is already imminent (when Gettin' the Band Back Together starts, then we can talk.)"
Serious question here, I swear I'm not trolling - why is there so much bad buzz for Getting the Band Back Together? I read the summary and thought it sounded cute. Were the out of town tryouts or the clip they released that bad?"
Because it's an original musical not based on a movie, book, TV show, etc. that apparently has an awful score and "looks bad" to the normal theatre-going eye. Honestly, so many posters on this board are too empty-headed.
(I bet this is why people hated First Date!)

Aw, First Date was cute but it should have been done Off Broadway. People are pretty harsh on "Gettin the Band Back Together" because no one knows much about the show. My friend is in the ensemble so I'm going to be supportive but when I listen to these sound clips...it makes me cringe. But I hope it's great!!!!!

Haven't people been predicting the end of Beautiful for about 2 years now in these posts? I'm not saying it's not coming but it has continued to outlast expectations and if they can get anymore stunt casting, they might hang on. I wonder if they could hang on long enough to bring back Jessie Mueller for a closing run if/when Carousel ends....
I do think Kinky Boots could be done as soon as Labor Day although it has also cheated death for awhile

Sad for Head Over Heels. The show was so much fun and the cast is so sweet. Hopefully, it gets better! Also, I give KB until labor day

I really enjoyed that show too and agree that it could have a really nice run off Broadway instead.

I believe it did very well over there. In fact, it was a hard ticket to get when I was in London last year. I didn’t get to see it until 2 weeks ago. So glad I did. A truly phenomenal experience. I believe the National Theatre is a subscription house so not sure how that affects any revenue it received in Londonand perhaps transferred with. Of course, that is also assuming that the Londoninvestors are also the same Broadway investors.
Also, I know Kinky Boots recouped a long while ago, but that low percentage of total possible gross can’t be good."
I wouldn't call the NT a subscription house - they have different levels of memberships but none of them include guaranteed tickets as far as I know. They are however heavily subsidized by Arts Council England so technically their productions don't necessarily need to be in the black during their initial runs. I think they are pretty open about trying to finance their productions from public funding + the money flowing in from West End/Broadway transfers. I am sure they had additional investors for those productions but in general, I think different rules apply to them than to commercial productions.
Both AiA and Follies seemed to have regular pricing last year, I paid less than £20 to see those performances..

Posted: 7/3/18 at 12:22pmWonder if there was any cost off set by not having to rebuild the set for AiA etc. I mean it’s a huge production and playing in such a small window. It seems odd to spend all that money solely to win some awards?

Angels was re-engineered to fit the Neil Simon, I doubt much/any of the physical production made the transfer, save for possibly costumes.
This production was a Passion project from Jordan Roth and everyone involved-If you see the rare production where the Shuberts, the Nederlanders, and Jujamcyn have all put in money, you know they think the project is more important than the economic return.

I guess in the grand scheme 8 million isn't that much considering they had have to have made some of it back, no? Plus the amount of money Bruce Springsteeen and BOM are brining in for him, I'm sure it's fine.

There are 27 other producer names listed above the title in addition to Jordan Roth and the National –– all people/businesses who presumably invested a few hundred thousand dollars in the show. But, if it doesn't return 100% of its money, at least they all got Tonys + the honor of producing the first revival of a landmark play.

It's not easy to bring sets from overseas. Aside from the expense of shipping them, the unions make it very difficult to use anything that wasn't built here.

You were literally the first poster to predict two shows closing, so you do seem to be a fan of this topic?

Actually, haterobics, I was agreeing with BroadwayConcierge's post; what I was referring to, however, was the fact that I am not a fan of discussing the inevitability of shows closing. You probably missed my giant tangent on the "How Long Does Kinky Boots Have?" Thread, but it doesn't really matter anymore.
Theater is enjoyed and theater is honored, but theater is apart of a business, and therefore, we should "smile because it happened" or something like that.
(I mean, Kinky Boots and Beautiful have had exceptionally long runs, but I guess it is a little unfortunate that they're basically on the chopping block at this point, i.e. what with the stunt casting and all.)

Kinky Boots has been stunt casting for awhile now, and has managed to stay afloat. And if they can get a name to come in after David Cook's next stint, I imagine it will continue to stay afloat.

The ticket prices for AiA in London were a lot cheaper compared to the Broadway prices for stalls/orchestra. I recall late last year looking at prices and thought it was too expensive a nap if I did go since I normally don't watch Bway plays as I have a tendency to fall asleep. However, after the Tony Awards I finally was convinced to go by a friend and was SO GLAD I saw it! I loved it so much that I saw it a second time! Wow!
