I didn't see it, but the Tony Awards Ceremony performance really didn't entice me. I thought the washboard choreography took up waaaaay too much of that performance and just didn't make me want to see more of... that.
Yes. The weakest version of Pirates! we've seen - and why SO many songs from other G&S ?? We were not a fan of the choreography and some of the cheesy ensemble. Pierce, Karimloo, Barasch, and Boyd were good. Jinx was fine. Williams and the set, no.

I find expectation levels often affect how much I enjoy things and Pirates was a prime example. I do not like G&S at all and was bracing for a tedious performance but I ended up really enjoying it. And Ramin was great!

I thought Pirates was, for the most part, an engaging and frothy production with many of the enjoyable traditional musical elements that people expect.

I didn't understand it when Joseph Papp put a song from Ruddigore in his version of Pirates (although I'd argue it did work), and I didn't understand it with this production either.
