Sweeney's picking up.
and that 12.5% jump was BEFORE the closing was announced
perhaps they will extend
Just wanted to point out that although the attendance went up, the actual grosses only increased by around $5,000. This probably has to do with the $50 tickets during Judy Kaye's run.
Everything looks a bit healthier this week - DRS is up too.
Okay; reality check. SWEENEY's attendance rose slightly but the show is still at 66% and its gross barely up. It's not much reason for extending...
no I wasn't saying it was gonna extend...I just want it to finish with gusto!
just wishful thinking on my part
it's all good The8re! Lord knows how much I wish it would.

And DRS is only up $1500 and they're running either at or slightly below their break even. Another bad week -- same for Wedding Singer.
I think we're all hoping that sales pick up for Sweeney enough to keep the show open. I doubt it'll happen, but we can always hope.
I hope that the closing annoucement for SWEENEY TODD will draw people to it. It MAY extend if it continues.
And the news for DRS is not bad- just not what we'd like to see. So I still say that it is doing well enough to remain open for the forseeable future.
I see what you're saying Margo, but surely a rise has got to be better for DRS than second week in the 70s? That could be a blip rather than a trend?

Not sure about that. DRS has had a LOT of weeks barely at break even or at a loss. The new cast is not drawing. We'll see what happens come September when business drops again.
And Sweeney is NOT extending.
Look at the average ticket price and the net gross, instead of percentage of capacity. If you are filling the house, but with huge discounts, it's not healthy. Shows have to still be selling a certain amount of full priced tickets to remain solvent.
Average ticket price for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was $58.71, the lowest of any musical on Broadway, besides Sweeney Todd. A $58 average ticket price means that the show is selling almost all of its tickets at 50% off.

Ignore percentages completely -- they mean nothing if the percentage only increased because of heavy discounting (look how low their average ticket price is). Only grosses matter and DRS is barely breaking even week after week (and is very likely losing money because of added expenditures in marketing to promote the new cast).

OKies... I'll bear that in mind in future - I'm an instant gratification girl - I go straight to the percentages! And as I'm a Brit, I have no concept of the running costs for them either, so i tend to go on how near full they are.. my bad.

It would be much more informative if they showed the cumulative grosses in real terms. The phantom of the opera has probably earned a billion dollars in real terms instead of 600 million.
The O'Neill theatre is booked with another show. SWEENEY can't extend even if ticket sales somehow went through the roof.
May I aks what show is going into the Eugene O'Neil?? I looked on playbill.com for their upcoming shows and didn't see that any of them were going into the O'Neil.

High Fidelity or Spring Awakening.
I've only heard that SPRING AWAKENING was hoping to go into the theatre, but that's just a rumor. I've yet to see it confirmed.
