The production was dark for the week. Back tonight."
They are not selling tickets again for the week Sept 5-12. Early during the run ,this was announced as one of the Jackman leaves of absence. Will it be dark again?
Hugh Jackman is expected to be attending the world premiere on September 7 of his new movie THE SON which will be in competition at the Venice film festival and is also scheduled at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) after its Venice screening. The film is shaping up to be one of the awards season major hopefuls, including acting honors for Jackman. Co-stars are Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby, newcomer Zen McGrath & a role for Anthony Hopkins. It is a film adaptation of a celebrated play by Florian Zeller ( Oscar winner for Adapted Screenplay for The Father, same film which won Best Actor Oscar for Hopkins). Two-time Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Hugh Jackman makes his highly anticipated return to Broadway as Professor Harold Hill in Meredith Willson’s beloved classic, and two-time Tony-winning superstar Sutton Foster stars as Marian Paroo. The production is directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony winner Warren Carlyle."
I've been harping on A Strange Loop for weeks with its grosses so I'll turn my attention to Hadestown instead this week. That trend line is... not good. I'm not sure Lillias White is going to help matters (though I'm super excited about her in the role). I'm not sure how much juice it has left.

What about it? It's easy. Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad. What else could it be? :)
Is it possible with their enormous success that ITW decides to tour? I could see it doing well in some parts of the country, the orchestra would be their largest expense.
Into the Woods returned to the TKTS booth last night, and the matinee today. And it's participating in Broadway "Week," September 6-25, selling 2-for-1. So its summer numbers may not be repeated in the next six weeks. Which isn't dire; it only means that it may remain a more modest hit. The percentage of capacity will be the interesting number to watch, heading into mid-September. Will the booth sales fill all of those seats? That's the open question. I know people who got great 2-for-1 mezz seats in September. I think it's wonderful for all of the families who might not afford top prices otherwise.

It will be interesting to watch ITW. I bought a ticket for Labor Day weekend and for one performance it was very heavily sold and for the other sales were very sparse in all sections.

Exactly. DEH is doing extremely well using every metric. The question I have is why. We surmised that Gaten has been a great draw as the DEH numbers went way up after he started his run, but is he THAT much of a draw? And we also know that the show is closing on 9/18. So is it a combination of both of those things? You'd think that if was mostly attributable to Gaten, the producers would try to keep the show open and find someone else to sell tickets, because why close a show that's basically selling out every week and making a ton of money?

I am consistently surprised by people who expect box office jumps when someone whose name is only known by real theatregeeks joins a show. While I have no doubt that some geeks are seeing it because she has joined, most theatre goers and tourists have never heard of her.

I think it's a combination now. I think when it first jumped it was almost entirely due to Gaten but now it's probably a combination of him and the final ascent towards closing now that we're less than a month away.
