This should answer some questions regarding WSS...

"Box-office business tends to decline across Broadway for several weeks after Labor Day; even so, Mr. Seller said that the production was expected to recoup its original multimillion-dollar investment and begin making ?a very nice profit? in the next three weeks. He added that advance ticket sales total more than $7 million. The musical, one of the biggest commercial successes now on Broadway, grossed $1.15 million for eight performances for the week ending Aug. 23; the weekly operating costs are approximately $600,000."

So if they're already at the point of recouping really soon and have a nice advance, I don't see how the show is in trouble.

And Riedel mentioned that the production cost an initial $14 million.

Wicked's initial investment was 14 mill and it took 14 months for it to recoup its investment. West Side Story probably has a smaller nut, but it has been grossing slightly less money than Wicked and its initial investment is the same. I would imagine that WSS still has plenty of time before it will recoup. Excuse my ignorance if I'm missin' something!

Well I'm not sure

Total difference in gross-600k nut is about 17.5 million (Obviously the nut wouldn't be an exact figure etc..), so I'd imagine they are very close to recouping..

Nope wasn't serious about Wicked, just surprised to see it dip below 100%.

"Nope wasn't serious about Wicked, just surprised to see it dip below 100%"

It's had some weeks below 100% earlier this year. On the week ending February 8 it was at 91%.

". I would imagine that WSS still has plenty of time before it will recoup. "

- If you read the NY Times article, the producers said they expected the show to recoup within 3 weeks from the day that article was posted.
